Description / Zantedeschia Collection Calla Lily Bulbs
This Calla Collection includes four popular and boldly colored calla lily varieties: 'Flame', 'Lavender Sensation', 'Majestic Red', and 'Passion Fruit'. You'll receive five bulbs of each variety, individually packaged and labeled, totaling 20 bulbs. These plants grow to a mature height of about 10 to 24 inches, with lush, large, sword- to arrow-shaped foliage that serves as an attractive backdrop for the elegant, chalice-shaped flowers. Florist favorites, the 2- to 3-inch blooms are long-lasting and make fabulous additions to summer bouquets and mixed flower arrangements.
Calla Collection bulbs are Zantedeschia spp. varieties, commonly known as calla lilies. Native to South Africa, these plants are tender perennials in Zones 8-10 but are often grown as annuals or houseplants in cooler climates. They perform equally well in gardens or containers, whether outdoors or indoors, with three bulbs usually filling a 10- to 12-inch pot. Calla lilies are excellent specimen plants and look their best when massed or grouped, especially in beds and borders.
Virtually trouble-free, calla lilies are easy to grow and flower best in sunny locations, though they will tolerate partial shadeparticularly in hot summer climates, where full morning sun and afternoon shade may be preferable. They adapt to a wide range of soils but prefer loose, organically rich, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil. Plant these calla lily bulbs in spring after all threat of frost has passed, spacing them 12 to 24 inches apart and 4 inches deep, with the 'eyes' or growing points facing upwards. Regular watering and feeding during the growing season will benefit the plants.
Calla bulbs are only summer hardy. They may survive over winter in Zone 7 if heavily mulched, but in areas receiving frost in the winter, it's best to dig them up in fall or treat them as annuals.
