Description / Punica 'Eversweet' Pomegranate
Punica 'Eversweet' Pomegranate is a deciduous shrub or petite tree celebrated for its decorative appeal and delectable fruits. Its glossy green leaves beautifully frame the vibrant orange-red flowers that bloom from midsummer to early autumn. Following the floral display, the plant yields pomegranates, comparable in size to an orange, ripe and ready for harvest from late summer to fall.
The pomegranates have the typical red outer skin but stand out for their clear, non-staining juice sacs inside, which are almost seedless. As the name implies, the fruits offer a sweet taste even when not fully mature. Packed with vitamins C and K, abundant in antioxidants, and rich in dietary nitrates, these pomegranates are a delicious and nutritious treat.
The 'Eversweet' Pomegranate is an excellent choice for an accent or specimen plant and can also be trained as an espalier or grown in a container. In a garden setting, it grows swiftly to reach a height of 8 to 12 feet. It can be pruned to maintain your preferred size and shape. As a container plant, it remains smaller but still produces flowers and full-sized fruits.
This pomegranate plant is extremely easy to grow, naturally suited to regions with cool winters and hot, dry summers. It performs well in both coastal and inland climates, thriving in sunny locations with organically rich, well-draining soil. It is also drought-tolerant once established. For optimal growth, it benefits from a nitrogen-based fertilizer in spring and an annual application of compost or well-rotted manure. This self-fertile tree does not require pollen from other varieties to bear fruit, but does need 150 chill hours.
This pomegranate tree will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. This pomegranate tree does not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
