Description / Bio Dome - Original Seed Starting Kit
Bio Dome Setup Instructions
- Set Up the Bio Dome
- Place the green base on a flat surface.
- Attach the clear vent cover securely over the base.
- Prepare the Bio Sponges
- Insert the bio sponges into the holes of the polystyrene planting tray.
- Ensure each sponge is properly seated and ready for seed placement.
- Plant Your Seeds
- Place one seed into the pre-drilled hole in each bio sponge.
- Avoid planting root vegetables like carrots, beets, or radishes, as they need more space than the sponges provide.
- Add Water to the Base
- Fill the green base with lukewarm water until the polystyrene tray floats.
- The bio sponges will wick up the water they need, ensuring proper hydration without over-watering.
- Adjust for Climate Control
- Use the adjustable vents on the clear cover to maintain warmth and humidity.
- As plants grow, remove the clear vent cover for better air circulation.
- Monitor Root Growth
- Check regularly to ensure roots are growing downward and extending out of the bio sponge.
- Strong root growth indicates healthy seedlings.
- Transplant the Seedlings
- When the seedlings are ready, remove them from the Bio Dome.
- Plant them directly into garden soil or a container. The bio sponge will hold together while allowing roots to spread into the new soil.
- Reuse and Refill
- Clean the Bio Dome after use.
- Get refill bio sponges to continue using the system for years.
When to Start Seeds Indoors
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost in your area. Knowing your local frost dates is key, so check a planting zone map for accurate timing. The Bio Dome makes it easy to manage your seedlings by providing optimal conditions for germination and early growth. Starting early ensures your plants are well-established and ready to thrive when you move them outdoors.
Do I Need To Use a Grow Light?
A grow light isn?t absolutely necessary, but it can make a difference for your seedlings. If you?re growing in a space without enough natural sunlight, a grow light helps provide the 12-16 hours of light seedlings need each day. Without enough light, plants may grow weak and spindly.
Position the light 1-2 inches above the Bio Dome and adjust it as your seedlings grow. If you have a bright, sunny window, natural light may be enough, but a grow light is a great backup option to keep plants healthy.
When Should I Transplant The Seedlings to The Garden?
Move your seedlings to the garden when they have 2-3 sets of true leaves and the outdoor soil is warm enough. Start by putting them outside for a few hours a day over a week to help them get used to the weather. Look for sturdy stems and roots that are filling out the sponge?this means they?re ready to be planted in their new home.
