A fabulous romaine blend from Park Seed. This delicious blend lets you grow exactly what you need for the perfect salad.
Park Seed Organic Tricolor Romaine Blend Includes:
Lettuce Vivan: a dark green romaine for bunching with baby leaves. Has a vigorous growth habit and is quick to produce. Delicious medium green leaves can be picked at a smaller size for a variety of leaves.
Lettuce Silvia: a beautiful red romaine for all year sowing. Is a dark foliage lettuce with smaller leaves and a sweet flavor. They have a looser head and soft yet crisp texture.
Lettuce Brun de Hiver: a bronze romaine with green colored stems and lover leaves. Has a unique foliage with mixed colors. These colors are lettuce, orange and a soft pink. The edges of the foliage change. This lettuce has large heads and is a great grower.
This collection is cool season and can tolerate a slight frost. Lettuce and greens are best started outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring or late summer (for a fall crop). For those living in zones 8 and warmer, sow your seeds in early fall for a winter harvest.
As long as the temperature stays below 80 degree Fahrenheit, you can keep making successive sowingsevery two weeks is typicalto extend your harvest. As summer approaches, however, you will want to plant varieties that tolerate heat and resist bolting (producing flowers and seeds too soon).
If you choose to sow your seeds indoors, do so 4 weeks before planting out, at a temperature of 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Expect germination in 7 to 10 days.
