New York Planting Zones & Schedule

New York’s USDA growing zones range from Zone 4 to Zone 7, depending on where you are in the state. Upstate New York falls mostly in Zones 4a, 4b, and 5a which are best suited to cool-weather crops like spinach, cabbage, carrots, and broccoli. 

Parts of central New York fall in Zone 5b while areas along Lake Ontario and into the southern part of the state are in Zones 6 and 7. Here you can grow warm-weather crops like beans, cucumbers, and peppers as well as cold-hardy varieties.
