Spanning from the mid-Atlantic into the South, Zone 7 is relatively temperate. With a last frost date of mid-to-late April and first frost date of early-to-mid October, the average growing season lasts from early May to late September.
Moderate winters combined with warm summers make for a long growing season that supports a wide variety of plants. Zone 7 is ideal for most fruits and vegetables, except varieties that require extreme heat and can’t tolerate winter freezes.
The growing season in Zone 7 offers a minimum of 180 frost-free days. To maximize your harvest, consider starting seeds indoors before the last frost date in spring. The planting schedule below can help you determine the proper timing to start seeds, direct sow, and transplant your seedlings.
