Acorus 'Ogon' (yellow-leaved calamus) is a semi-evergreen (evergreen in mild winter climates) grass-like perennial offering 3 seasons of interest. Grown for its foliage, the plant produces iris-like tufts of thin grass-like leaves with bright golden yellow variegation. Crushed foliage is sweet smelling.
'Ogon', an Acorus gramineus, commonly called grassy-leaved sweet flag or golden variegated sweet flag, is an herbaceous plant with a dense, erect, clump-forming habit. Acorus 'Ogon' has a moderate growth rate and slowly spreads by rhizomes. It's a beautiful specimen or accent plant for containers or beds and borders. Mass planted, it's an excellent edging groundcover. The plant is suitable for foundation plantings, naturalized areas, rain gardens, and rock gardens.
An easy-care plant, Acorus 'Ogon' prefers full to part shade and moist, regularly irrigated soil. It grows well in a wide variety of conditions, including in wet, boggy areas around ponds, streams, and in woodlands. The plant dislikes heat, however, and may scorch in hot, sunny, dry conditions.
