Description / Athena Hybrid Melon Cantaloupe Seeds

Days to Maturity: 75 from direct sow

An early maturing cantaloupe renowned for its firm, aromatic, absolutely delicious flesh. Athena is the gardeners' favorite for dependable performance and great holding power on the vine. This is a melon you don't have to rush to harvest, and every 5- to 6-pound fruit is super sweet, succulent, and delicious.

The vine spreads between 2 and 3 feet long, setting about 5 to 7 melons. Athena is such an early bearer that you might want to plant seeds successively every two weeks for a month or more, guaranteeing yourself of a summerlong harvest.

The fruit arises with coarse netting and salmon-colored flesh on vigorous plants that know how to withstand garden stresses. The fruit keeps its texture and flavor for a long time after maturity, remaining true on the vine even if you can't harvest it immediately. Resistant to cracking and very durable, it's a gardener's dream.

Very Resilient! 0 people found this helpful

Last year was my first year growing any kind of melon successfully. MY own fault. In the past, I've had life get ahead of my garden and overwhelm me so weed/watering etc. Last year, I finally had time to actually focus on plants, and even with forgetting a few times that bag gardens are less tolerant of drought, this plant produced! And the melon was nice sized, exactly what you'd pick up at a local grocery store in Anywhere, USA. It was, however, much better tasting! Firm, just the right sweetness, and kept very well in the refrigerator. Each vine tried to make over 5 fruit, although I pinched them back to 3. Last years seed where 2 years old, and I just planted my last two 3 year old seeds which germinated in 4 days!. I'm actually here to purchase more!
