Description / Blue Lake FM-1 Bean Seeds
60 days from direct-sowing.
A classic choice for early beans of highest quality eating, Blue Lake FM-1 sets pods that remain stringless and fiberless at all stages of growth! The dark green pods are tender and rich, filled with white seeds and an incomparable flavor. If you are looking for a true-blue pole bean that never disappoints, this is the name you can trust!
Blue Lake FM-1 sets pods about 6 inches long, packed with tender, sweet white seeds. Packed with rich flavor, they are a favorite for eating fresh as well as for canning and freezing. Even at season's end, when other beans may be tough or dry, Blue Lake FM-1 is top-quality eating, as succulent and full-bodied as the first harvest of the year!
And Blue Lake FM-1 is very widely adapted, producing heavily in a range of climates and conditions. You can expect this vining bean to continue to set new crops all season long, bringing you bushel baskets full over the course of many weeks!
Pole beans offer a distinctive "beany" flavor, stronger and richer than most other types. Because they use vertical space, they free up the horizontal rows in the vegetable garden for other varieties. They're easier than bush beans to harvest, as well. Blue Lake FM-1 is a great choice no matter how you look at it!
Direct-sow the seeds after all danger of frost, and for best harvest, keep sowing at 3-week intervals until late spring. You can also sow in late summer and early fall (up to about a month before the first frost) for a fall harvest. Support the 5- to 8-foot vines on a trellis, tower, or poles spaced 3 feet apart. And this season, consider growing a Three Sisters companion planting of corn, beans, and squash!
Like all legumes, Blue Lake FM-1 is a nitrogen-fixer in the soil. After the final harvest is in, chop up the plant and work it back into the soil. You will be delighted with what it does for the quality of your soil next season!
