Description / Brunnera 'Sea Heart'
The unprecedented color show of Brunnera 'Sea Heart' offers up white, blue, and lavender-purple tones in abundance! A delight for shady spots in the garden or on the patio, this breakthrough Siberian Bugloss sets sprays of little florets that open white and blue, then gradually mature to a more lavender color. Once the season is underway, all 3 tones are present at once, creating a rich color show over the already-showy foliage.
This Heartleaf Brunnera 'Sea Heart' begins spring with fresh leaves of olive green overlaid with a bright silvery pattern that is downright dreamy. Many-layered and dense, this little perennial has a much larger impact than you would expect from its size, thanks to the intricate detailing on every leaf.
The dainty flowers open in spring, facing straight up on slender stems carried above the foliage. They complement the silvery-green leaves perfectly, and keep arising through late spring. Expect them to begin earlier than other varieties, and to last even longer, giving you another week or two of beauty in the shade!
Unlike many other Brunnera, the variegation on the foliage remains true even through summer's heat. The lovely venation pattern persists into fall, adding another season of beauty to 'Sea Heart'.
The Brunnera 'Sea Heart' perennial reaches just 6 to 12 inches high and spreads 1 to 2 feet wide. It's lovely in the front of the shade border, along pathways, and in containers, where its delicate, intricate variegation can be enjoyed up close. Very tolerant of summer heat and humidity, it requires little maintenance beyond enriched, well-drained, and moist soil. Bring a delicate sense of beauty to any shady spot with 'Sea Heart'! Zones 4-8.
