Description / Caladium Strawberry Star Bulbs
Caladium Strawberry Star is a tender perennial in Zones 10 through 12 but can be grown as an annual in cooler climates. Admired for its dramatic, enduring foliage, it brings a daring splash of color and unique texture to your garden from summer through to fall. Strawberry Star, a fancy-leaved caladium variety, also known as angel wings, boasts large, heart-shaped leaves on slender, upright stalks. Its vibrant light green leaves are beautifully speckled with pink and contrasted with a dark green stem and veins.
Caladium Strawberry Star exhibits a compact, mound-like growth and a moderate growth rate. When planted in groups or masses, caladiums bring a stunning burst of color and texture to garden beds, borders, hanging baskets, and they are also an excellent choice for underplanting. They grow well in patio pots, and the bulbs can be nurtured indoors as a houseplant.
Caladiums are tropical plants that are incredibly easy to grow and require minimal maintenance. They flourish in warm temperatures with high humidity and prefer shady to dappled sun locations with fertile, organically rich, consistently moist, well-draining soil with an acidic pH. However, they are adaptable and can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. Monthly fertilization can enhance their growth. The Strawberry Star is resistant to diseases and can withstand heat, humidity, and sun, thriving even in full sun, particularly in northern climates.
