Bush Bean

A delicious, vibrantly colorful, gourmet-quality Romano bean, Capitano must be grown to be appreciated. Once you've tried these succulent golden pods, you won't consider planting the bean garden without them.

The pods are flat, approximately 6 inches long, and very uniform on vigorous, heavy-bearing plants. They color up quite young, adding bright golden-yellow color to the garden, and boast a velvety texture that holds sauces and dressings beautifully.

But the best part is the flavor. Tender and very tasty, these beans are fine enough for your fanciest occasions, and are so delectable you'll find yourself wanting a dish every day. That's okay—these bush-habit plants are very heavy bearing, standing just 20 inches high and covering themselves in straight, even pods all season.

Capitano really sets itself apart from the pack of Romanos, and deserves a place of honor in the vegetable garden. Try it once and we know you'll be convinced.

My customers call them crack. 0 people found this helpful

These beans are so wonderful. I will not grow anything else. I bring the capitano beans to our local farmers market and the woman whisper... Hey do you have any more of those "CRACK" beans. My best selling bean ever. I freeze them and eat them all winter. Love them. Also use them in place of pasta in many dishes. Excellent variety of bean!

Etremely high yield and plants produce continuously for over 2 months. Beans are tender and delicious even when beans are large. The color provides good contrast making for easy picking.

reliable and delicious 0 people found this helpful

Since we first tried these beans 4 years ago, this is the only bean we plant. They are consistently productive, flavorful, and tender. Even beans which miss a picking and get fairly large are still stringless and tender. We eat them fresh picked but also can and freeze them.

Love This Bean 0 people found this helpful

A friend gave me these seeds and I'm not a big fan of string beans in general. The first year I planted them, had a hard time with germination and crop. The next year, I got it right and planted a lot more seeds than I thought and had an awesome crop. This year, I planted seeds even more liberally and have been harvesting beans all summer long. They are beautiful, low bush, creamy kind of flavor and now I'm freezing my excess. Won't miss planting these each year.

Very nice flavor and velvety texture, just delightful. Just had our third picking here in South Florida, and expect two more. We will plant this one every season from now on.

Beans are my second favorite garden veggie, and I love the flavor of Capitano! I planted Capitano in late June and harvested plenty of beans. The plants grew well during a rainy season and responded well to neem oil as a treatment for Mexican bean beetles.

This is the hardiest and most productive bean I have ever grown. It produces almost non-stop until frost if you keep it picked. Also, delicious fresh or frozen.
