Description / 'Longwood Blue' Bluebeard

Butterflies love the new 'Longwood Blue' Bluebeard Mist Shrub, and so will you! This compact Bluebeard offers a longer season of bloom, lovely silvery foliage to complement the rich blue flowers, and an evenly upright, tidy habit.

Developed at the renowned Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania, 'Longwood Blue' Bluebeard is an improvement over older Blue Mist Shrubs in length of bloom season, habit, and color intensity. In bloom from midsummer well into fall (with the heaviest blooms early in the season), this shrub has enough color to spare for indoor arrangements as well as garden beauty!

Two to four feet tall and wide, 'Longwood Blue' Bluebeard makes a big impact in any size space. You will especially appreciate its late-summer and early-fall blooms, which stand out when most other plants in the garden have finished for the season or are in that "in between seasons" stage, not showing much color.

Hardy in zones 5 to 9, 'Longwood Blue' Bluebear asks only for full sun and well-drained soil in the northern zones; give it partial shade in southern climes.

Planted 2 last spring and ordered 2 more during summer 5 people found this helpful

Love them. Planted in horrible dry, clay soil, in almost full sun and they thrived. Tall, full, and just loaded with Longwood blue distinctive blooms. Watered once a week. No issues at all.

My second order of this plant 4 people found this helpful

We have loved the Longwood Blues. Planted in horrible dry clay soil around a foundation and the 3 plants have thrived. Tall and beautiful. Only watering once a week. Just received 2 additional Longwood Blue plants to be planted this autumn and the plants are strong, healthy, and packed with bountiful root balls. Look forward to adding them to the foundation plantings. Thank you.

I planted five of these in Strawberry, AZ, which gets snow and down to -8 in winter at times. They were beautiful plants that took very little care once established. We had droughts and they were drought tolerant. Will definitely try these again in Nevada.

Great plant to grow in Georgia, north of Atlanta. Never sick or sorry, tolerated the dry weather and red clay. Beautiful blue added to the landscape.
