Impossible to categorize as any single flower color, this wildly bright 2009 All-America Rose Selections Winner offers giant clusters of blooms containing every shade of red, orange, magenta, purple, smoke, and more. Each flower is unique, and a fully blooming shrub is a conflagration of festive colors, enhanced by a fresh-cut apple fragrance you will love.
The 3-inch blooms arise on 10- to 15-inch stems, opening from charming long, pointed buds. The rounded, bushy little shrub, which is cloaked in a dense layer of very disease-resistant, super-glossy medium green foliage, grows to only 3 to 4 feet high, making it an extremely versatile plant. It's just the right size for a low hedge, large containers, or mass planting. Cinco de Mayo™ is the standout in any garden setting, which is exactly what you'd expect from an offspring of the international award-winner Julia Child.
Plant this floribunda in medium-moisture, well-drained soil in full sun. Spring pruning is recommended. Old and dead wood should be removed and canes that cross need to be cut back. Gardeners in warmer climates should cut back the remaining canes by about one-third, while those in colder areas will probably want to prune a little more than that. It can be grown in the ground or in a container (containers will require winter protection).
