Description / Cocozelle Organic Squash Seeds

Days to Maturity: 45 from direct sow; Synonym: Cocozella di Napoli.

For well over 100 years, gardeners have been enjoying the super-tender, delectable flavor of this Italian heirloom, and we are delighted to bring the seed to you in certified organic form. An open-pollinated summer squash that may be picked young or allowed to mature to full size, this zucchini is everyone's favorite for rich, satisfying flavor.

Perfect for small-space gardens, this bush-form plant takes off early and begins setting fruit abundantly. Dark green with lighter green stripes, the little zukes look as good as they taste, and you can begin harvesting them at just an inch or so long for baby squash. You never tasted such succulence.

If you decide to let them reach maturity, be sure to harvest them before they reach longer than about a foot. (This typically takes only a month and a half.) You will find Cocozelle a great multi-purpose zucchini—steaming, frying, slicing, baking, freezing, and even canning are all terrific with this powerhouse of flavor.

To extend the harvest, be sure to pick some of these zukes young. This will stimulate new fruiting, keeping you in great eating for a few extra weeks. You will love Cocozelle—we guarantee it.

Good and bad 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

The good is it has lovely texture and flavor. Bad is it took quite a long time to produce female flowers which delayed production of first squash. Second bad trait is extreme susceptibility to powdery mildew.

This is now the only zucchini I will grown in my garden. I grew Spineless Beauties too but Cocozelle was the best grilled zucchini I have had.

Best variety of zucchini 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

We grew three plants (by accident) and were overcome with zucchini all summer. This variety is very prolific, but also very tasty. It’s great for both baking and cooking. It’s lower in moisture than other varieties of zucchini, so it holds its shape in stir fries and is easier to prepare for baking. We’ve already decided that it be a permanent addition to our garden in the future.

only male flowers :( 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I have two of these cocozelle plants growing like crazy - lots of healthy leaves and flowers - but I'm only getting male flowers, so no fruit :( The leaves are especially attractive to squash lady beetle. They are all over these plants but not on the other squash plants right next to it. I'll keep hoping for some female flowers before the end of the season.

SUCH good flavor 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

Absolutely the best summer squash. Fantastic sauteed, makes great zoodles (cocazoodles?), goes well in soup, and of course if you let it get big, it will work well in zucchini bread. It seems to have less water content than other zucchinis, so it doesn't get mushy as quickly. I planted it twice last year (spring and fall) and again this year. Never get tired of eating it.

By far my favorite Park Seed offering. Have grown this seed for a couple of years now, and it's done well each time, with high yields, beautiful, delicious fruit.

No female flowers 0 people found this helpful

This plant grew vigorously from the get-go, but only produced male flowers. The few female flowers there were dropped off the plant before blooming. I didn't get a single squash .

Always dies well, always germinates and does not have problems as other squashes. Also can get really large and bares a lot of fruit on one plant.

Easy to grow & beautiful! 0 people found this helpful

My first time growing my own food. This one was easy. I tried to start the seeds indoors early March, but those plants didn't make it. Seeds I direct sowed outdoors are gorgeous and strong!!

organic cocozelle squash 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I have grown this squash for 2 seasons in my southern garden. A lovely zucchini type squash with great flavor. The plants held up well against the squash borers. I do pile up dirt around the base of the plants to try to deter the borers.
