Description / Dianthus Scent First® 'Coral Reef'

Dianthus Scent First® 'Coral Reef' is the dianthus of your dreams. Part of the Scent First® Pot series of dianthus, this variety has intense spicy fragrance, frilly double blooms with pink petals edged in white, handsome evergreen foliage of grayish green, and a ground hugging, spreading habit just right to meander through the rock garden or fill in spaces in borders and the foundation. You're going to wish you had a gardenful of this treasure.

A superb cut flower, Dianthus Scent First® 'Coral Reef' has a scent that is most often compared to cloves: sweet yet spicy, with hints of nutmeg and allspice. Very different from the often cloying "too sweet" fragrance of some cut-flowers, it makes an ideal nosegay, boutonniere, and small arrangement for desk or tabletop.

Ideal for containers as well as the sunny garden, Dianthus Scent First® 'Coral Reef' is part of the Scent First® series of dianthus. In bloom, it can reach a foot high, and it spreads 18 inches wide within just a season or two.

Left alone by rabbits and deer, a friend to scentless annuals, and a low-maintenance treasure, Dianthus Scent First® 'Coral Reef' deserves a special place (or three, or five) in your landscape. Prepare to be wowed by its vigor, beauty, and fragrance. Zones 5-9.

First Year, Ehhh. Second Year, WOW! 0 people found this helpful

The first year I had this plant I got a few blooms, which smelled beautiful. This second year, WOW! So many beautiful flowers are budding. It’s so exciting. The color that lasts of the leaves in the winter is also a beautiful addition to my garden. All 3 plants I purchased are healthy and thriving. So happy!

I like them and they are pretty when I happen to get one or two blooms. They might be deer resistant but not rabbit resistant. Can't seem to grow them very long before the are chewed to the ground.
