Description / Dianthus Everlast™ Violet Blue
Dianthus Everlast™ Violet Blue is a mounded perennial that produces bright, double flowers in vivid violet blue from May through July, then reblooms in August. The colorful blooms sit above a tidy mound of gray green foliage that reaches about 12 inches tall and 14 inches wide. Deadheading spent flowers encourages another flush of color, extending the show across spring, summer, and fall.
Everlast™ Violet Blue is a versatile choice for containers, mass plantings, perennial borders, and rock gardens, and it looks right at home along pathways and entrances. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators visit the flowers, making it a good addition to wildlife gardens. It is deer resistant and has no significant pest or disease problems.
Grow in full sun to part sun in any well drained soil; sandy, alkaline soil is preferred. Provide average moisture and water regularly while the roots establish. Hardy in Zones 4 to 9, this low maintenance dianthus can be divided every 2 to 3 years in spring or fall. Trim dead foliage in early spring, and shear plants back by one third before winter dormancy. Double violet blue flowers with an August rebloom make Everlast™ Violet Blue an easy way to keep color going all season.
