Description / 'Green Twister' Coneflower

Irresistible to butterflies, long-blooming, ultra-colorful, and carefree -- what could be more delightful than a large stand of brilliant Echinacea?

The petals are held nearly straight out from the bloom, instead of bent back like many other Coneflowers, giving Green Twister more color on every giant bloom. And there are simply so many blooms -- they begin in midsummer and continue into fall! When they finally do pass, be sure to let the birds feast on the huge mahogany-brown coneheads, or harvest them for dried arrangements.

Carefree in any sunny spot, these drought-tolerant plants reach 3½ feet tall, tolerating light shade though best in the blazing heat. Bearing literally hundreds of blooms over its many months of color, Green Twister is a garden workhorse, yet looks so efffortless and lush in the sunny bed or border!

Super-easy to start from seed, this Echinacea blooms the first year and for many years thereafter, lasting through the worst heat and dry weather summer has to offer. The flowers are also superb in the vase--if you can tear them away from the butterflies, that is! A natural treasure, Coneflower belongs in almost every garden with space for plenty of colorful, long-lasting blooms! Zones 3-8.

Bloomed first year, Low germination rate 0 people found this helpful

Split one pack of seed, half indoor in early March the other halfwas winter sown. Only 4 germinated indoor and 2 outdoor. I planted two on the infoor germinated plants in the garden and they are fabulous. Two remining wintersown plants are growing slowly in 4" pots. Due to the low germinatiin rate i recommend yiu purchase more seeds. The blooms are gorgeous. Can't wait for their second season

Beautiful but does not hold green highlights 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

Easy to grow from seed, vigorous though took a bit of time to get to flowering stage from seed. Large rose red blooms with bright cones are long lasting and sturdy. Disappointed green twister characteristic did not last long and then flower turns fully deep rose with no curl looking very similar to other pine coneflowers though stockier. Worth growing alongside taller or other tinted cones and perennials.
