Description / Evening Scentsation™ Petunia Seeds

All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2017

Only one thing could make a spreading petunia even more appealing, and this one's got it: FRAGRANCE! Notes of sweet honey, roses, and hyacinths combine to create the scent of these indigo blooms, which arise by the thousand over a season that spans many months. The fragrance is noticeable all day, but really intensifies in late afternoon and evening, making Evening Scentsation™ Petunia the perfect choice for balcony, deck, patio, or any part of the garden where guests gather for entertaining.

Evening Scentsation™ Petunia has already won an All-America Selection Award, and we expect more honors to follow. This is a breeding breakthrough extraordinaire, a plant with all the merits of, say, the Wave® series, plus a sweet scent and a really deep, intense flower color. What could be better.

The blooms begin opening in late spring in most climates, continue through summer, and go right up to frost. They average 2½ inches wide and are a siren call to all butterflies in the neighborhood. Evening Scentsation™ Petunia is a multiflora, very tolerant of rain and excessive sun and heat. The habit is both mounding and spreading, reaching 5 to 8 inches high and trailing nearly 36 inches long from baskets and planters. Or, if set into the garden about a foot apart, the plants will fill in available space with a nicely mounded size and more blooms than you can imagine.

Evening Scentsation™ Petunia is easy to grow from our convenient pelleted seed, which should be started indoors 5 to 6 weeks before transplant to the early-spring garden. Set out plants when all danger of frost is past. The plant will begin blooming 10 to 12 weeks after sowing. It is magnificent in hanging baskets, window boxes, and large containers, as well as an unrivaled ground cover for bright sun. Stupendous.

This seed comes as a "pellet". "Pelleted" seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.

Great germination and growth 5 people found this helpful

After getting frustrated with the local nursery prices increasing on annual flowers, I decided to try grewing petunias from seed. I received 11 pelleted seeds in each pack instead of 10! Thanks you Park Seed! They took about 2 weeks to germinate with a warming pad under the covered trays. They were ready to go into the outdoor planters after the danger of frost had passed. They filled my whiskey barrel and are overflowing the edges. So pretty. Thanks Park Seed for the great quality.

This is my first time growing petunias from seed. Each pack came with 11 (not 10) pelleted seeds that I placed on top of the soil in my counter top mini green house w/ a warming mat and light. The seedlings started to germinate at day 8. I had 1-2 seeds that didn't germinate but I was also given 11 seeds so I felt I had great success starting the plants. I just transplanted each plant into a larger pot until the weather gets warmer and they are doing great. Thanks for the wonderful service and seeds! I can't wait to smell these flowers!

While not nearly as prolific and not quite as durable as the tidal wave petunias, these are lovely; germination results were excellent.

Love this petunia, mostly because of the color. None like it! Can't wait to see it get bigger as summer rolls along.

Beyond incredible! 3 people found this helpful

These petunias have it all with their abundant blooms and enchanting scent. The description of the scent is 100% as described! I cut these beauties back when they started getting too long and wispy and within two week they were even thicker and fuller than before with gorgeous indigo/lilac colored blooms. The bees love these and so do I! Even the seedlings I started were lush, healthy and wanted to grow!

Disappointed 1 people found this helpful

I’m a little disappointed in the color. I thought they would be more blue than purple. There’s very little difference in these plants than the other purple petunias I purchased. I had a great rate of germination and they are gorgeous blooms.

Don't miss these! 2 people found this helpful

A must have, espcially for your balcony, window or railing garden. Every seed germinated, and though they remained tiny for a wihle, they suddenly began to grow very rapidly. Before transplaning in very early spring, they were already in full bloom - which I've never had on a seedling so quickly. Don't be worried, the foliage and flowers initially had a slightly geranium-type scent - not too pleasant. But this faded and the scent is spring-in-a-flower. This hybrid is absolutely true to its name - the scent is strong, and also attracts hummingbirds. This will be my go-to from now on in flowerboxes, and am hoping they introduce more colors.

I started these indoors in March, the seeds all germinated quickly. They are now beginning to flower in one of my deck containers. Pretty bright purple color. I haven’t noticed their fragrance yet but I am sure they will soon be sharing their delightful fragrance. I now want to plant more petunias. I never knew they were so easy to start from seed. Thank you for the wonderful varieties offered.

Poor germination! 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I started these the day after they arrived, indoors as I do with the majority of my seeds. Out of 10 seeds, only one has germinated. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch because another variety in the same tray have all germinated. These seeds are rather expensive and I’m very disappointed and I think I’ll order from another supplier.

Wow 0 people found this helpful

These deliver on their promise! They take a bit of time to germinate, and grow slowly at first, but they suddenly take off. I suggest starting in 3" pots, 1 seed per pot. My seedlings are already 6" tall and in full bloom with multiple blooms on the plants. Initally, the blooms and leaves put off a strange scent, similar to geranium which I didn't like at all. However, this changed to become a strong and pleasant floral fragrance, which you can smell even ith only a few blooms. I've rarely had a seedling bloom so readily. Not these will not come true from seed, so each season make sure to purchase yours again!

Favorite Petunia 2 people found this helpful

I did a petunia trial last year trying to find my favorite. Scent and beauty were my criteria. These have the same powerful fragrance as old fashioned vining petunias but a more stocky growth habit. The color of the flower is incredible and has a metallic look.

Wonderful fragrance and deep rich color 1 people found this helpful

I started twenty petunia seeds at the beginning of March; eighteen of them germinated and I kept them in the bio dome until they were ready for transplant. They seemed rather delicate, and I was concerned about how they would transplant, but they quickly flourished (I then realized I probably could have transplanted them sooner). I have three pots of them; one on my back patio and two on my front porch. A neighbor noticed them and said the scent reminded her of her mother's petunias. Would love to add a photo to this review but I don't see a place where I can do that.

Lovely but not so fragrant 0 people found this helpful

Every seed germinated quickly in my rather cool home. The blooms came on quickly when planted outdoors, they were lovely with color as pictured. However, the fragrance was a disappointment. Mine were planted in a raised planter in a sunny space along a walk way and protected from wind so I expected more fragrance. For me, the scent was average for petunias.

100% germination, amazing growth and strength. I used a heat mat, planted seeds on 4-29-2019 and had germination on 5-5-2019; by 5-12 every plant had first true leaves. I planted them with Horizon yellow in a hanging basket. They won 1st place at the county fair. I made sure the judge knew to give them a sniff, and she did, Due to health concerns I am limiting my garden this year, but not these beauties!

just wonderful 1 people found this helpful

Almost all the seeds I started indoors sprouted. I put one seedling in a pot and the purple flowers cascaded over the sides in no time, mounding over the pot. During the heat of Aug & Sept the plant did not flower much but I did have it in the direct sun. Then towards the end of Sept it started blooming again. I also gave some away & the recipients were blown away by how many blooms and how continuous this petunia was. The one was kept out of direct sun & pruned and never stopped flowering. I personally didn't notice much of a scent, but to be fair most of my time around them was in the morning.

This is the 3rd time I’ve grown Evening Sensation petunias. I live them in my planters for their gorgeous blue color and the delicious fragrance. They’re just so pretty????. They do need to be started early and u see grow lights but as I use a certified seed starting mix, follow directions, I never have had a problem. These are beautiful and I will most definitely grow again.

Pretty color, sort of leggy, major spilling, not a lot of bloom quantity or density. Can detect no more fragrance than a standard petunia. I am pretty sure the picture is staged to get that sort of bloom density. Would not grow again.

Bought ten seeds. Only 2-3 germinated and they didn't matured long enough to bloom even though I coddled them. Ironically a stray old-fashioned petunia with great perfume that I didn't plant flourished in the weeds.

Wonderfully healthy plants 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

Six weeks from sowing, they’re strong plants getting ready to bloom. The pelletized seed made sowing easy, and I got 100% germination. The seedlings were really tiny for quite awhile, making indoor germination in a bright, humid place a must, but when they finally did take off, growth was fast. In fact after they were moved into a container, one sent up a second stalk several inches away from its base: these are remarkably vigorous! One evening a caterpillar munched off two of a small seedling’s four leaves, but the plant was so strong it completely recovered.

I grew these last year (2017) and they have a fantastic scent that you can detect from across the garden. Like many petunias, they tend to get a little leggy if you don't cut them back, but the color is soft and clear and they're wonderful as a "filler" in large pots.

I planted the seeds in early April and I had about 8 out of 10 germination rate. They are now stocky, healthy plants ready for the garden. The blooms are not ready yet but I'm anticipating a real treat of beautiful blooms and lovely scent.
