Description / Evening Scentsation™ Petunia Seeds

All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2017

Only one thing could make a spreading petunia even more appealing, and this one's got it: FRAGRANCE! Notes of sweet honey, roses, and hyacinths combine to create the scent of these indigo blooms, which arise by the thousand over a season that spans many months. The fragrance is noticeable all day, but really intensifies in late afternoon and evening, making Evening Scentsation™ Petunia the perfect choice for balcony, deck, patio, or any part of the garden where guests gather for entertaining.

Evening Scentsation™ Petunia has already won an All-America Selection Award, and we expect more honors to follow. This is a breeding breakthrough extraordinaire, a plant with all the merits of, say, the Wave® series, plus a sweet scent and a really deep, intense flower color. What could be better.

The blooms begin opening in late spring in most climates, continue through summer, and go right up to frost. They average 2½ inches wide and are a siren call to all butterflies in the neighborhood. Evening Scentsation™ Petunia is a multiflora, very tolerant of rain and excessive sun and heat. The habit is both mounding and spreading, reaching 5 to 8 inches high and trailing nearly 36 inches long from baskets and planters. Or, if set into the garden about a foot apart, the plants will fill in available space with a nicely mounded size and more blooms than you can imagine.

Evening Scentsation™ Petunia is easy to grow from our convenient pelleted seed, which should be started indoors 5 to 6 weeks before transplant to the early-spring garden. Set out plants when all danger of frost is past. The plant will begin blooming 10 to 12 weeks after sowing. It is magnificent in hanging baskets, window boxes, and large containers, as well as an unrivaled ground cover for bright sun. Stupendous.

This seed comes as a "pellet". "Pelleted" seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.

Great germination and growth 1 people found this helpful

After getting frustrated with the local nursery prices increasing on annual flowers, I decided to try grewing petunias from seed. I received 11 pelleted seeds in each pack instead of 10! Thanks you Park Seed! They took about 2 weeks to germinate with a warming pad under the covered trays. They were ready to go into the outdoor planters after the danger of frost had passed. They filled my whiskey barrel and are overflowing the edges. So pretty. Thanks Park Seed for the great quality.

Had about 80% success with seed germination and all grew into beautiful plants that we now have in pots lining our flower bed

Favorite Petunia 1 people found this helpful

I did a petunia trial last year trying to find my favorite. Scent and beauty were my criteria. These have the same powerful fragrance as old fashioned vining petunias but a more stocky growth habit. The color of the flower is incredible and has a metallic look.

100% germination, amazing growth and strength. I used a heat mat, planted seeds on 4-29-2019 and had germination on 5-5-2019; by 5-12 every plant had first true leaves. I planted them with Horizon yellow in a hanging basket. They won 1st place at the county fair. I made sure the judge knew to give them a sniff, and she did, Due to health concerns I am limiting my garden this year, but not these beauties!

just wonderful 0 people found this helpful

Almost all the seeds I started indoors sprouted. I put one seedling in a pot and the purple flowers cascaded over the sides in no time, mounding over the pot. During the heat of Aug & Sept the plant did not flower much but I did have it in the direct sun. Then towards the end of Sept it started blooming again. I also gave some away & the recipients were blown away by how many blooms and how continuous this petunia was. The one was kept out of direct sun & pruned and never stopped flowering. I personally didn't notice much of a scent, but to be fair most of my time around them was in the morning.

This is the 3rd time I’ve grown Evening Sensation petunias. I live them in my planters for their gorgeous blue color and the delicious fragrance. They’re just so pretty????. They do need to be started early and u see grow lights but as I use a certified seed starting mix, follow directions, I never have had a problem. These are beautiful and I will most definitely grow again.

Wonderful Scent 0 people found this helpful

I grew these last year (2017) and they have a fantastic scent that you can detect from across the garden. Like many petunias, they tend to get a little leggy if you don't cut them back, but the color is soft and clear and they're wonderful as a "filler" in large pots.

A Great Petunia 0 people found this helpful

I planted the seeds in early April and I had about 8 out of 10 germination rate. They are now stocky, healthy plants ready for the garden. The blooms are not ready yet but I'm anticipating a real treat of beautiful blooms and lovely scent.
