Description / Finesse® Verbena Seeds

A longtime customer favorite in our trial gardens, this Finesse® Verbena bonariensis offers 2-inch balls of rich lavender. The blooms bob atop long, sturdy stems on plants 2 to 4 feet tall, blooming from early summer until frost in the sunny garden.

Finesse® Verbena bonariensis, this tender perennial offers months of garden color both from the big blooms and from the finely-cut dark green foliage. Good tolerance of heat and drought means even longer, more perfect bloom. Even though it tolerates dry soils, it really loves moist to wet conditions. And when Finesse® Verbena bonariensis finds a place it likes, it self-sows freely.

Grown as an annual north of its hardiness range, Finesse® Verbena bonariensis is a staple of the cottage garden, cutting garden, and meadow. It tolerates poor soils beautifully, asking only for good drainage and plenty of sunshine. The ideal addition to a wildflower garden. Perennial in zones 7-10.

Tall, sturdy stems 0 people found this helpful

I have grown verbena bonariensis in years past, but moved several years ago and have not grown them in my new garden. I purchased seeds from Park in 2019 and planted them. The plants grew and bloomed some in 2019, but this spring they really have grown up and out! This variety seems to have sturdier stems than the ones I used to grow (received as a passalong plant from a family member). We've had several storms this spring and they have held up beautifully without staking.

Beautiful, tall healthy plants with strong stems 0 people found this helpful

I bought these seeds last spring (2019). Germination was okay (not 100%), and I transplanted the small new plants into my landscape midsummer. They stayed pretty green all winter due to our mild temperatures and starting putting on new growth in very early spring. They are now five to six feet tall and blooming in late April 2020. I have had this type of verbena plant before, but they were much more "floppy." I'm amazed that these have remained upright through several strong wind and rain storms, even one storm that took down power poles in our neighborhood.

Great germination 0 people found this helpful

I ordered several packets. Just pressed them into pots in early spring. The pots are full, the flowers are stunning, and most importantly are covered by various bees and butterflies.

Beautiful but Invasive 1 people found this helpful

I purchased seeds, put them in little containers once they grew and it was warm I put them in the ground. They are beautiful but the seeds can go flying through the air and you will have them everywhere. I live in the county so it is not a big deal but if you have close neighbors they may go onto their land. Easy to grow from seed.

My newest favorite! 1 people found this helpful

I'm always looking for something a little different, but I still love the old fashioned flowers. I was looking for something to compliment my garden. I started these from seed and I like them so well, now I look for something to compliment them! Tall and natural looking, the many small clusters make a huge impact. Beautiful!

Doing well so far 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

Good germination, and all 6 plants I set out are growing well, even those last, pot-bound ones. They have been blooming for a month+ now. The plants branch out quite a bit, and each side branch also blooms. They may fill out more, but I suspect to get the density of flowers in the photo, you may need to plant a bit closer together than recommended. So far, popular with carpenter bees, smaller flies, and a few butterflies and moths. But no honeybees, despite 2 hives in the yard!

  7. Buy here for best deal 0 people found this helpful

Unfortunately, this was not the first site I visited, and I bought a pack of Verbena Bonariensis at another website for double the cost! If I had seen that this company offered those seeds, in addition to the others that I was looking for, I would have bought them here first. Lesson learned.
