Description / Fragaria 'Quinault' Strawberry

These are the biggest, softest, juiciest, most delectable strawberries you can find for fresh eating. 'Quinault' is "the" name for giant, delicious berries, and if you've got even one strawberry lover in the family, you owe it to them to grow this easy, high-yielding plant.

These Fragaria 'Quinault' Strawberries are a full 2 inches wide, with soft flesh and dessert-quality flavor. They've got everything I appreciate in homegrown strawberries—an intense fragrance, great color, and that succulent tenderness that no store-bought berry really equals.

Fragaria 'Quinault' Strawberry is an everbearing or "day-neutral" plant, so it will keep producing from late spring through summer—4 to 5 months of solid crops isn't unusual. And it's self-pollinating, which means you don't have to grow a big field of these plants to get good yields. In fact, 'Quinault' is a great choice for pots (as well as the garden, of course), because it sets berries even in unrooted runners.

Reaching anywhere from 12 to 18 inches wide and spreading up to 2 feet wide in the garden, Fragaria 'Quinault' Strawberry is terrifically vigorous, thanks to its great resistance to many common strawberry diseases: leaf scorch, leaf spot, and root rot. It's the perfect combination—huge fruit size, unbeatable flavor, and heavy yields.

Among the best fruit crops for the home gardener, strawberries ask only fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. They offer years of tasty fruit, renewing themselves from the runners they produce. Set plants 2½ feet apart. They will set ¾-inch white blooms a few weeks later, followed by fruit about 4 to 5 weeks later.

Replace this crop about every 2 years to keep up the yields. Everbearing varieties flower and bear fruit over about a 5 month time frame, although the spring and fall months tend to be heavier, particularly in warm climates. They do best in the Northern U.S., and are a great choice for the higher elevations in the South.

Your order will include 20 young bare root plant starts.

Great looking plants 0 people found this helpful

I grew Quinalt strawberries years ago and they did very, very well for me, so I stayed with them when starting a new bed this year. The plants arrived in good condition, looking healthy and strong out of the package. The planting instructions provided were easy and clear. I soaked the roots and had them in the ground within an hour of receiving them. We've been having nights near freezing and below, so I've been keeping them covered with a lightweight frost blanket. Two weeks after planting them, the plants are now 6-7 inches tall and looking great.

I hate to do it, but I need to be honest….these are the WORST strawberries I have ever had. I planted all of them with a drip tape so they could be watered well, but not too much, and they are also in weed block so they aren’t being choked by weeds. The plants grew great and have sent off runners all over the place. However, out of the 20 plants, 3 died and only about 5 of the plants produced strawberries at all. And what they do produce are the tiniest strawberries, most of them small as or smaller than my fingernail- and I am not a large person. And they were supposed to produce in July however they really have taken until mid august. I bought 2 strawberry plants at Lowe’s several years ago and had over 100 to transplant in 2 years, and they produced enough for me to make 2 batches of strawberry jam and have plenty to eat with breakfast. But these! What a huge disappointment!

I've never bought bare root plants and my strawberries came in a wad. I had to wait 2 wks to plant because of frost and low temps. They were so easy to plant and had it all done in about an hour. Now, 5 days later the majority of them have blooms coming up. I'm so excited to watch these babies grow. I was worried about the wad they arrived in, but we're so easy to separate and so healthy! Thanks

of the 20 root sets only 3 showed signs of life, starting to grow. assuming the other 17 were still dormant and would start growth soon, i carefully prepared location and planted all 20, , of the 3 , only 2 developed recognizable leaves , after all this time, (4 weeks), the other 17 did nothing, , i am very disappointed, would have been better off buying 5 or six potted, & healthy growing plants, selected on site, from a local retailer. . even the 2 with leaves are not progressing at all.

Sorry Very Poor Quality 0 people found this helpful

I was very surprised at the condition of the plants I received. Over half of the plants were rotten with dead roots. I have purchased bare root strawberries in the past from other dealers and very good luck.

The two orders of Quinault Strawberries was very poor. Most of the roots did not look healthy. I planted all of the 40 bare root plants. It looks like I may only have 15 plants live. Very disappointed with the quality of the bare root plants.

Horrible quality plants 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I don't know what has happened but the quality of the plants is the worst I have ever seen. I contacted Parks and they did send a replacement order - quality was just as bad... I've been growing strawberries for decades, I know a good plant from bad and I know how to get the plants started. Out of the first batch sent only one is still alive, all others rotted from crown rot that was present when received. The second batch, over half dead from rot already. I'll never buy live plants from Parks again.
