Description / Fragaria 'Seascape' Strawberry

A highly popular and dependable choice, Fragaria 'Seascape' Strawberry is valued not only for fruit production but also for ornamental purposes and can fit beautifully into an edible landscape. An everbearing strawberry, fruiting continuously from late spring until first frost, Fragaria 'Seascape' is highly productive, yielding large, firm, rich red berries (inside and out) with excellent sweet flavor.

A Fragaria x ananassa variety, Fragaria 'Seascape' Strawberry is a cross between two popular varieties, F. chiloensis and F. virginiana. The plants have a fast growth rate and a low-growing, rounded habit of pleated dark green leaves that form a dense, mounding rosette. The plants spread by stolons that root at the nodes. They produce loose clusters of 5-petaled, yellow-centered, white flowers followed by plump, dangling fruits. Suitable for garden and patio pots.

Fragaria 'Seascape' Strawberry prefers full sun and fertile, organically rich, consistently moist, well-drained soil. Cold hardy, it grows well in a wide range of climates and may remain evergreen in frost-free regions. The plant is tolerant of early heat, requires less chilling, and performs well in hot, dry climates. It is disease and deer resistant.

Your order will include 20 young bare root plant starts.

The package of 20 plants came with excellent instructions on handling and planting them. I planted them as recommended in the ground and they all have responded and are showing their leaves. I extra laid alfalfa around the plants as mulch and when the berries appear, they won't touch the ground and get dirty. I"m very satisfied with Park Seed!

Three of the plants I received had a touch of green, the rest were totally brown when they arrived. I planted them all right away in potting soil to see how they might recover. Only one is green and alive after a week. I did receive a refund, since these strawberries are now sold out. Disappointing.

Strong roots 0 people found this helpful

I was happy to find this variety as bare root plant, the price is great! They were delivered quickly, and I was amazed by the quality. Plants had very well developed strong roots. I soaked them overnight in a water and planted them in the morning in Greenstalk leaf planter. They are doing well so far. Excited to see them grow and fruit.

Arrived in bad shape 0 people found this helpful

I had ordered these in February, and when they still hadn’t arrived last week, called and found my entire order was held up because of one other item. They sent the order including the “back ordered” item, but the strawberry “plants” consisted of a plastic bag of mud and rotted roots, no leaves at all. Totally disappointed! Going to the compost pile.

I bought two of these packs, and they shipped on Feb 23. It seemed a little early, and we had some late frosts after they shipped. They arrived slimy and mushy. I planted them anyway, hoping for the best. Only a quarter of them sprouted and sent up leaves though, which I’m bummed about.

Poor quality 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

The bare root plants I received were small overall. Many of them had overly dark roots, which I was suspicious of. Only about half came up, and only 3 lasted more than a couple weeks before something came over them. My other strawberries from a different well-known source and planted in the same soil and conditions have made it until October, so I am certain it was the quality of the plants and not the planting conditions.

Learning to grow strawberries 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I planted the strawberries as soon as I received them. They responded immediately and are growing nicely in a strawberry container. It's been really hot and looks like it will be for awhile, so I am giving them a good long drink every day and keeping my eye on them. I lost 2 plants. I am new to gardening but watching a lot of YouTube videos about gardening. I bought straw and they have that as a mulch. I am hoping to see some more flowers soon however, and looking forward to a nice harvest. The plants were in excellent condition on arrival!
