Description / Helleborus HGC® Winter Ballet Liara Hellebore

Helleborus HGC® Winter Ballet Liara Hellebore adds charm to your garden all year round. This evergreen perennial bursts into bloom from early winter through to early spring, showcasing large, saucer-like flowers with delicate dusky pink petals. Each petal features a unique pattern, with fine veining and a darker pink reverse and edging. The flowers, perched on long, sturdy stems, stand out against the backdrop of palm-like, dark green leaves. These long-lasting blooms not only add beauty to your garden but also serve as an essential early food source for bees.

As a Helleborus x lemperii, commonly known as Lenten rose or hellebore, HGC Liara is a moderately vigorous herbaceous plant that forms an upright mound. It shines when planted in groups or masses in beds, borders, and patio pots. This plant also serves as an attractive ground cover and can naturalize over time, spreading slowly through its rhizomatous roots. While it self-seeds in ideal conditions, it won't become invasive. It's the perfect choice for planting under high-branched deciduous trees or large shrubs, where it's protected from harsh winter winds.

Hellebore grows easily, tolerates cold, and requires little maintenance. It thrives in dappled shade spots with organically rich, moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. However, it's adaptable to most soils, including clay, chalk, and loam, and can handle a variety of growing conditions. Once established, hellebore tolerates drought and resists deer, rabbits, and salt; however, it won't tolerate waterlogged soils.

I am an avid gardener and have bought many products from Park Seed over the years without a problem. This time, I ordered three Winter Ballet Liara Hellebores. The plants came with broken stems and were so root bound, I had to cut the plastic pots completely to dislarge them. I soaked them in water for several days and used a small fork and knife to try to separate some of the roots. They are still like rocks. I would not recommend purchasing this product.
