Description / Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love'
Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love' is a showy, deciduous perennial offering early to midsummer interest. A dramatic, reblooming variety with a long bloom period, Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love' produces 4-inch, trumpet-shaped, dark velvety black-red flowers with a pale yellow-green throat. Each flower lasts one day, but each plant contains several long scapes with multiple buds that open in succession. So, it blooms for weeks, attracting butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
A Hemerocallis hybrid, commonly called daylily, Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love', an herbaceous plant, has an upright, clumping habit and a medium growth rate. The full, grass-like, deep green foliage lends texture and color to the garden, so the plant is attractive even out of bloom. Although it is an excellent specimen, suitable for a container, Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love' shows to best effect when grown in masses in large areas or in groups in beds and borders.
Cold hardy, easy to grow, and low maintenance, Hemerocallis 'Prelude to Love' prefers full sun to dappled shade and deep, fertile, medium moisture, well-drained loams. But it is extremely adaptable and grows well in a wide range of soils, including poor, dry, clay, chalk, and loamy soils. It is rabbit and slug resistant and drought tolerant.
