Description / 'Hungarian Blue' Poppy Seeds

Days to Maturity: 84

An heirloom bread-seed poppy variety that boasts large single blooms in showy purple-blue shades with dark markings. The blooms sit atop strong stems with healthy foliage. Once the petals drop, seed pods full of grey-blue seeds develop. These seeds are used for baking poppy seed rolls and breads. This large flowered Papaver somniferum is an easy to grow annual. Simply scatter the 'Hungarian Blue' Poppy Seeds in early spring and be ready to enjoy the impressive bee-friendly flowers.

planting poppys 3 people found this helpful

    Rating

Maybe bad reviews are because people did not plant them correctly. you have to plant them by just barely scratching the surface of the soil. the best way to plant them is to mix them with sand and then sprinkle over the soil and water them gently till they are well established.

    Response from store

Thanks so much for your review and for sharing your great planting tip! ???? Mixing the seeds with sand and lightly sprinkling them over the soil is such a smart way to get even coverage. We love hearing what works best for our gardeners—happy growing!

I put out five packets of these seeds and not one single seed germinated. Very disappointing as I was looking for something dramatic in a spot by the front of my house.

Worthless Seeds 10 people found this helpful

Not only was there not a single poppy that came up, it seems all the seeds in the packet were MILKWEED because that is what came up, not the poppies. I will not order these again.
