Description / Joe-Pye Weed Seeds

One consolation of the end of summer is always the arrival of Joe-Pye Weed, a generous, floriferous, tall garden treasure native to the eastern U.S. and treasured by all who know its effortless beauty and eagerness to naturalize. The 5- to 7-foot stalks, which resemble those of lilies, are topped with large, curving flowerheads composed of many dozens of small blooms, in every shade of purple from lilac to deep royal. Despite the bushy habit of the plant and the dense blooms, the effect is airy and soft.

Joe-Pye Weed blooms the first year if the seed is sown early enough and will naturalize freely to increase its glorious show year after year. It is superb for mixed beds and even borders, but you may want to plant it in a setting where it can spread. The cut flowers are excellent in the vase, too.

Asking only full sun and normally to poorly fertile soil, Eupatorium grows easily and flourishes in most settings. Expect this well-branched, striking plant to reach 2 to 4 feet wide. Trouble-free beauty from an American native.

Pollinator - Friendly 0 people found this helpful

I am cheating! I have not purchased Joe Pye seeds. But I am a semi-serious honeybee keeper. Joe Pye which grows wild in my area, is an important source of fall nectar in my area. By selecting this to plant you are helping pollinators, which in turn helps the environment.

Love my Joe 0 people found this helpful

My neighbors had this lovely in their yard. She gave me a little sap of her Joe to plant. Granted I must have chopped him down at least three times before I got used to him. But once I finally remembered to let him grow, he was absolutely beautiful. Every year more and more spikes come up. Can't say enough praises. Bumble bees absolutely have a party too. Can't wait to move so I can order my Joe and start over

Pleasantly Surprized 0 people found this helpful

Bought this in Bluff Point, NY. The elderly women suggested this plant for our cottage entrance and we couldn't be happier. It's taken me over a year to find my original receipt so that I could identify the plant by it's name. It really excentuates our entrance!
