This just may be your next favorite cherry tomato. Kitchen Minis ™ Red Velvet produces deep red fruit that is exceptionally sweet and delicious. Most "pretty" tomatoes lack this explode-in-your-mouth flavor. In fact, these fruits are so tasty, the variety was crowned winner of the 2009 Tomato Tasting at SSE's Heritage Farm.

Kitchen Minis™ Red Velvet Cherry Tomato was bred to grow in a container outdoors or indoors on a sunny windowsill. The tidy plant requires minimal support. Inserting sticks along the central stem is usually adequate. The 1-inch-diameter fruits are fuzzy, like peaches, but the fuzz diminishes and disappears when the fruit ripens. The unique blue-green foliage has a silvery hue, reminiscent of dusty miller. Both fruits and foliage are hardy and will continue to grow and produce even after a frost.

Start seeds indoors and transplant after the threat of frost has passed. Water tomato plants at the ground and avoid getting water on the foliage to help prevent fungal disease. If overhead watering is the only option, water early in the morning so that the plants have time to dry.

If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.

Open Pollinated. Days to germination: 2 to 3 days

Surprised, really like these! 0 people found this helpful

I've grown a handful of micro and mini tomatoes and these surprised me. I have them growing on my desk at work in an aerogarden, and the first thing was the shape of the tomatoes. The fruits are small like a cherry tomato, but they have the shape of a larger "beefsteak" tomato. The plant stays very tiny and as would be expected for a determinate, they are all ripening at once. The flavor is nice, a bit tangy but good, and the plants are a true micro tomato habit, they stay small. Hoping this little burst of fruit repeats again not too soon in the future.

I have tried twice to plant these in one of my Aerogarden units and these has been no sign of any sprouts. I have doe the same with Tiny Tim tomatoes and they sprouted and overran my system. These are a total dissapointment.

Seeds arrived 0 people found this helpful

Seeds arrived in good condition. I do wish the packaging was a bit clearer. Like a picture. It can get lost in the seed box. But I am very curious about these seeds. Not many in the package and they like part shade. Very excited to try these.
