Description / Lonicera 'Mandarin' Honeysuckle
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit
A classic garden favorite, Lonicera 'Mandarin' Honeysuckle is a deciduous perennial vine that blooms in a heavy early summer flush, with intermittent bloom until fall. Arranged in terminal clusters, the tubular flowers open copper purple and turn mandarin orange on the outside with a lighter orange on the inside. The highly fragrant flowers are rich with sweet nectar that is irresistible to butterflies and hummingbirds. And birds adore the small berries that follow. The flowers are often used in bouquets and potpourri.
A Lonicera macgregorii, commonly called honeysuckle, 'Mandarin' has a climbing, twining habit and a vigorous growth rate. Honeysuckle quickly covers arbors, trellises, walls, or fences.
Cold hardy and low maintenance, honeysuckle grows best in a sunny to partly sunny location with fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-draining soil. The plant is deer resistant and generally pest and disease free.
