Apple trees require cross-pollination at blossom time for fruit to develop. Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen, typically by honeybees, from one variety to a different variety of the same type tree. But you don't need to worry about that because we've done the research for you and have included 2 mutually beneficial varieties in this Honeycrisp™ Apple Tree Kit (apple tree duo) that work best together for the easiest and most abundant apple growing possible.
Honeycrisp™ is a modern, semi-dwarf tree that is a charming addition to the garden. Pure white flower clusters cover the branches in mid-spring followed by a heavy crop of large scarlet red and yellow fruit in early September. The apples are very crisp and juicy with a mild, sweet flavor. This variety is considered a culinary or dessert cultivar, good for eating fresh or for culinary purposes. Developed by the University of Minnesota, it is one of the most cold-hardy varieties.
Enterprise is a modern, highly disease resistant, and easy to grow semi-dwarf tree that is a welcome addition to the garden. Pure white flower clusters cover the branches mid to late season followed by a good crop of large deep red fruit in early October. The apples are crisp and juicy with a spicy flavor. They are sweet enough to eat fresh but lend themselves to culinary purposes, making delicious pies, crisps, and applesauce. This variety comes from Purdue University.
The trees fruit 2 to 3 years after planting and attract birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, and the all-important honeybees. Keep in mind that most pesticides are toxic to bees and should not be used during bloom time. Bees are most active when the temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit and winds are below 10 miles an hour. For best pollination, place the trees within 100 feet of each other. A greater distance between them may result in poor pollination.
These trees were developed from Geneva 202 root stock and are non-GMO items, grown with sustainable and ecologically sound growing practices. They are 3 to 4 feet tall when shipped.
