Description / Scarlet Sentinal™ and White Icicle™ Patio Apple Tree Kit

Apple trees require cross-pollination at blossom time for fruit to develop. Cross-pollination is the transfer of pollen, typically by honeybees, from one variety to a different variety of the same type tree. But you don't need to worry about that because we've done the research for you and have included 2 very popular and mutually beneficial varieties in this Apple Tree Duo that work best together for the easiest and most abundant apple growing possible.

Scarlet Sentinal™ and White Icicle™ Patio Apple Tree Kit are columnar varieties that have virtually no branches and bear fruit along the main trunk. Perfect for small spaces, these dwarf trees can even be grown in large patio containers and pruned heavily to maintain their small size. They are cold hardy to Zone 4.

White Icicle™ becomes a striking pillar of snow-white flowers in spring followed by an abundant crop of large, attractive, red fruit in early September. White Icicle™ is very resistant to apple scab. The white-fleshed apples are crisp, juicy, and sweet, good for fresh eating, baking, canning, and cider making.

Scarlet Sentinel™ produces clusters of bright white flowers in spring followed by a good crop of exceptionally large, greenish yellow fruit with an attractive red blush in mid to late September. The apples are very juicy and sweet, good for fresh eating, baking, canning, and cider making.

The trees fruit 1 to 2 years after planting and attract the all-important honeybees. Keep in mind that most pesticides are toxic to bees and should not be used during bloom time. Bees are most active when the temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit and winds are below 10 miles an hour. For best pollination place the trees within 100 feet of each other. A greater distance between them may result in poor pollination. Plant trees in full sun (at least 4 hours) and in moderately fertile, well-drained soil.

These trees were developed from Geneva 202 root stock and are non-GMO items, grown with sustainable and ecologically sound growing practices. They are 3 to 4 feet tall when shipped.

Uses: Small Gardening, Containers, Borders, Landscape Specimen

I purchased these trees because I only have a small yard and I thought they would be perfect! And their size is perfect. However, I believe they’re dead not one leaf no appearance of leaves coming. I don’t wanna break it off just in case I’m wrong everyone else I know that purchased them. Their trees look great, not one leaf on mine

One of the two were packed too tight and it choked/killed the top growth of the white icicle : ( but they fixed it quick and gave me a full refund! The malus was fine, and I aim to keep em both alive! Anyways Park Seed was 100% cool so I definitely plan to grab something from em again! Be mindful of those schedules !

Misleading size description 0 people found this helpful

We haven't planted the trees yet. They arrived well packaged and dormant but they are definitely NOT 3-4 feet tall. We ordered two 2-packs for 4 trees total and they are about 2 feet tall, two and a half at most. We'll see how they grow. I'll revise my review if I remember to once we have them planted and have gone through a season where we hopefully get a harvest. A little disappointed about the size though.

Thought they were dormant. One struggled and finally perked up. One I believe was DOA. Don't know which one died for replacement.

I thought they were dormant and one was. One tree struggled but finally perked up. The other appeared to be dead on arrival. Not sure which is which to request a replacement.

Grafts died on both trees 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

I bought these trees because I wanted a pair that could be grown in pots since we are likely moving in the next few years and I want to be able to bring them with us. The trees never woke from dormancy and I finally check the buds and did a bark scratch test and found them both to be dead. The root stock is still alive and sending up shoots but the grafted trees are totally dead. I emailed customer service and have yet to hear back but I am super disappointed. :(
