Bush Bean

This is the elegant bean you see in European-style restaurants. Most filets available from seed are miniatures, but Maxibel sets long, slender pods packed with all the "gourmet" flavor you expect. As easy to grow as other snaps, Maxibel arises on tall, erect plants that harvest easily.

These 7- to 7½-inch pods are stringless and very slender, with a dark green color, straight form, and mouth-watering tender flavor. The first full-size stringless filet bean to reach the market also happens to be the best for succulent flavor and texture.

Maxibel arises on bush-habit plants that set their crops all at once, which simplifies the canning and freezing process. But for nonstop fresh eating all season, simply succession-sow the seeds, beginning when the soil warms in spring and continuing every 2 to 3 weeks into early summer. You will never be without a new crop of delicious beans to enjoy.

Easy and trouble free, even for the new gardener, this snap bean is widely adapted across the U.S., and is compact in the garden. For best harvest, succession-plant every 3 weeks or so from early spring till late summer (avoiding the worst summer heat in warm areas). You can also sow seeds in late summer for a fall harvest.

Maxibel is a legume, so be sure to chop up the plant and plow it back into the soil after harvesting the crop. Legumes are nitrogen fixers in the soil, greatly improving the performance of your garden. Your plants next season will benefit from this year's crop of Maxibel beans, too.

Hardier than pole beans, bush snaps can be direct sown after all danger of frost.

The beans are great, but the plants not so much. 0 people found this helpful

I love the beans this plant produces, but the plants are not at all disease resistant. I have grown these beans twice, and each time the leaves start getting brown spots and the leaves die. I have grown a few other varieties of beans and have not had this problem. In addition, the plants get tall and spindly and don't maintain the bush shape that the other beans do. I don't think I will grow these again.

Great green beans 0 people found this helpful

I always grow long, thin 'french filet' type beans using them both fresh and for freezing. This year I tried maxibel and a 'mascotte' variety. Side-by-side the maxibel wins for flavor and sweetness. They are just as prolific and early as others. If they freeze as well as I expect - they'll be my top choice

First try at bush beans in Deep South. Selected these as supposed to be heat and humidity resistant. My bushes have been prolific bearers with no diseases or pests. In large subirrigated raised bed. Very pleased. These will be my goto bush beans in future.

Nice Filet Bean 0 people found this helpful

We have grown this variety for 4-5 years now in our Zone 6b garden. We have been successful in getting both good spring and fall crops. The flavor is good on these beans and they preserve well, either frozen or canned. We have not had any serious pest or disease issues either.

Not Bush 0 people found this helpful

Well, these are not growing as bush beans. Making long vines! I am disappointed as I planted them in several large beds and have no way to support these vines.

Simply DELICIOUS 0 people found this helpful
Been growing green beans for decades - decided to give these a try this year and we are mightily impressed - super long slender tender pods are the best tasting fresh been I've ever had. Did not need to grow enough to can this year so only planted one 18 foot row - did a 2nd planting and will try canning some this fall. Ordering seeds so I'll be sure to have them on hand next year.

The germination of my Maxibel was good with the entire row. Plants are tall as they are starting to take off .. not sure how tall they should be getting.

Loved this bean! I tried several fillet beans this year and this one had the best yield and great flavor. It was also easy to pick. We had terrible weather and I still got a decent yield.
