When you're ready for exceptional flavor and vine-ripened goodness, rely on this top-quality performer with rich, full tomato tang. Mountain Spring is an exceptionally delectable bite, delivering gourmet goodness in every slice.

Mountain Spring was introduced in 1991, part of NCSU's renowned Mountain series. We think it's tops for flavor. It is not the heaviest-bearing, but it is certainly the highest quality for eating. These are truly gourmet tomatoes, worthy of your very best dishes.

These tomatoes are the type sold in the market as "vine-ripened"; they vary in size from 8 to 16 ounces, with a firm texture and rich, meaty, full tomato flavor. Mountain Spring is a determinate plant, meaning that it has a bushier form (rather than a continuously-growing vining habit) and sets its crop of fruit within a short several-week period. This is useful for anyone planning to store the tomatoes: if you want to can them, freeze them, sun-dry them, or otherwise turn the crop into delicious eating for later, determinate is ideal for you.

This plant is resistant to verticillium wilt, fusarium wilt, and blossom-end rot, while the fruit is firm and uniform, resisting cracking during the final stages of ripeness. Mountain Spring is a truly garden worthy tomato, able to withstand the common tomato foes while still producing super high-quality fruit.

Start the seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors when danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 2 to 2½ feet apart.
