Soft pastel colors, sweet fragrance, and fascinating appearancethat's what you get with the 'Color Festival' Grape Hyacinth Mix. No wonder they call this perennial bulb grape hyacinth; the big mounded clusters of flowers really do look like a bunch of grapes turned upside-down.
'Color Festival' Grape Hyacinth is a mix of four colors, two of them quite hard to find, that you will treasure for years as it multiplies into drifts of beauty in your garden. Blooming from early to mid-spring, this low-growing, delicate little flower is one of the joys of the sunny to lightly shaded garden.
'Color Festival' Grape Hyacinth is just 4 to 6 inches high when in flower, with grassy bright green leaves held well below the blooms. Its blooms remain fresh and pretty for weeks. And grape hyacinths don't mind a bit of shade, so you can plant them beneath trees and shrubs, and even around plants that won't leaf out until later in spring. They aren't competitive for root space, and they thrive even in poor soils. Given good drainage, they will grow and bloom for many years, multiplying where they are content.
In this 'Color Festival' Grape Hyacinth Mix you get 4 varieties: a snowy white, a shell-pink, a baby blue, and a sky blue. Blue is the most commonly available color for grape hyacinth, but the pink and white can be hard to find, so you will love having something a bit distinctive to show off in your spring bulb garden (and at such an economical price).
Grape hyacinth is famously easy to grow. Plant the bulbs about 2 inches apart in any soil except boggy, wet ones. After the spring flowers pass, the grassy foliage remains until summer (do not cut it back), when it goes dormant. Then, in autumn, it pops up again, gathering nutrients for the coming year. Let it remain all season, until blackened by frost. Next spring you will reap the beautiful results.
Hardy from one end of the country to the other, grape hyacinth can also be forced in winter for earlier, indoor blooms. It doesn't mind container growth, and grows in sun or shade. Have fun finding new places to show off this carefree perennial bulb.
