Description / Mutabilis Shrub Rose
Bring a parade of colorful "butterflies" to your garden all season long! Mutabilis gets started earlier than your average rose, opening beautiful blooms starting in the spring. Boasting a low-maintenance attitude and a magnificent color show for months and months, this rose is spectacularly rewarding.
Each 3-inch bloom has a wide open habit, stretching out its petals like butterfly wings to flap in the breeze. Best of all, the showy shrub changes color over its long season, starting with light yellow blooms, then maturing to pink, and finally blazing a bright crimson red. While the color is transitioning you will often see several different flower colors at once on the same plant.
A hybrid China rose, Mutabilis comes to us from an unknown breeder in 1894. Often called the butterfly rose, this remarkable, exotic variety is a classic that every rose garden needs! Not only does this remarkable rose offer a kaleidoscopic color-show over a greatly extended season, but it is also one of the most worry-free roses available, with great vigor and tolerance of heat, rain, and shade - a claim few other roses can make.
