Description / Park Seed Peony Mix Poppy Seeds

Simply the most beautiful mix of Peony-flowered Poppies we have ever seen. The 5 colors complement one another beautifully, yet are like few other Poppies in the garden, featuring cerise-streaked cream, a nearly black maroon, and a silvery-salmon (plus clear pink and brilliant white). Every bloom is a distinctive work of art, and they arise all summer long in huge, fully double form.

Indescribably elegant, the blooms on every color of this new Peony-flowered Poppy are fully 4 inches across. Jam-packed with ruffled, whorled petals, they really do look just like a Peony, yet have the carefree habit of a sun-loving annual.

Blooming begins when the weather heats up in summer. Cut all you like for indoor arrangements—they only rebloom faster from cutting. The blue-green foliage is an intense and very flattering backdrop for these blooms. And when the flowers finally pass, large blue-green seedpods rise to replace them. These oblong, hard pods are highly prized as Everlastings, keeping their dusty color and interesting shape for many months in dried arrangements.

Park Seed Peony Poppy reaches 2 to 4 feet tall and 1 foot wide. It complements so many summer-blooming annuals, perennials, and shrubs that the selection is limited only by your imagination. For my money, nothing beats a big splash of Hardy Geraniums backed by a swaying sea of poppies, but the long stems also rise above lower-growing, spiked blooms very effectively—try nestling them in a large planting of Salvia or Penstemon.

If you want to grow a large planting of this splendid mix or plan the placement of the separate colors, I suggest the economical collection, which gives you a 100-seed packet of each of the 5 colors for less than you'd pay for 4 separate packets. Imagine a planting of 500 of these dramatic Poppies in the sunny garden, meadow, or bank.

This Poppy is extremely easy to grow. For early summer show, sow direct either in late fall, winter, or even early spring. Best in areas where summers are cool or dry; not a good choice for humid regions.

I showed these seeds indoors in late winter, after keeping them in the freezer for a few months. Patience is necessary, as I found some seeds germinated more than a month after sowing. I was shocked by the size and the sheer number of petals on the blooms and everyone that sees them asks what they are. Wish I could submit some photos with this review because the colors are a bit different to the pictures on the site.

I started these indoors in the winter. Then I transplanted them into my garden. Most came up similar to the picture, though some were just plain red poppies. Most of them were the light pink color, which I wanted. The ones that did come up with ruffles were very beautiful.
