Description / Park's Whopper Strawberry

Park's Whopper Strawberry is a favorite across the U.S. and Canada for its superb adaptability and tough performance in the face of adversity. This June-bearer boasts unrivalled winter hardiness, thriving even in the upper limits of zone 3. And you'll just love the flavor of these plump, bright red, juicy berries.

Park's Whopper is a heavy-bearing strawberry, easy to grow and very productive. It blooms in mid to late spring, with handsome ½ inch flowers, and then sets a big crop of ultra-sweet, tender fruit. Expect to harvest 1 to 3 pints from every plant.

Like most strawberries, Park's Whopper spreads by runners, reaching just about 6 inches high but spreading more than a foot wide. Space plants 12 inches apart for dense coverage.

This is the strawberry to grow if you have uncooperative soil or unpredictable weather. It is a classic that has been tried and found superior in garden after garden, season after season. Among the best fruit crops for the home gardener, it proudly bears the Park's Whopper name.

Your order will include 20 young bare root plant starts.

Whopper Strawberry 0 people found this helpful

I just recieved and planted these so it is too early to review the berries but the plants got to me quickly, they sent more than 20 plants and I have only lost one plant. Some of them did not look alive when I got them but I planted them anyway and they are showing new leaves and looking great. Hope I get some berries next year!

Received 25 viable crowned roots. Planted today. Will update as the season progresses, that's the reason for only 4 stars. Very pleased with the quality and quantity of my strawberry plants.

Planting for perennial bed 0 people found this helpful

These have thrived so far. The bare roots were really strong. I was delayed a couple days getting them in soil and they still started to put out leaves in the water. Once I got them in the ground, they have been springing up. I'm really hoping they overwinter really well. I'll update in the spring 2024.

Better luck next year? 0 people found this helpful

These roots took to planting well. Only 3 didn’t survive. Lots of foliage, and tons of berries! So bright red, and so amazingly sweet and delicious! But they’re smaller than marbles…nowhere near what is falsely advertised.

We ordered these with the Eversweet, placed in side by side beds. The Eversweet was about 100% growth, unfortunately these ones maybe 4-5 plants grew. Little disappointed, will reorder next year.

I wanted larger strawberries than the variety I had. These are not only big strawberries, but are deliciously sweet.

Decent ???? plants 1 people found this helpful

I bought these Whopper strawberry plants during the pandemic. So I am on year 3 and they are still going strong. Most of the offspring runner plants I gave away to some friends. The berries definitely do not get as large as shown in the photos. (I won't discredit this might be possible in a commercial greenhouse with very controlled conditions). However, they are quite flavorful. Last year I had so many that I was able to prep and freeze them to save for smoothies in the winter. Overall, I'm satisfied, but I may try a different variety this year. The original set definitely exceeded my expectations in terms of foliage and longevity.

We love these plants. We live in a Strawberry growing county and have had plants over the last 47 years and these are the best we have had. Only planted a little over a week and the plants are strong and healthy.

So excited! 0 people found this helpful

I received the plants. Unfortunately due to the extreme cold and heavy rains I wasn't able to plant for over a week. We finally got a break in the weather between storms, I hydrated the roots, planted the strawberries and they perked up and looked great in less than a day. Within 4 days they have leaf expansion and a few new leaves are started pushing. I am looking forward to them producing this spring.

Not great results 0 people found this helpful

On arrival the plants had a white, fuzzy mold on them. I emailed and was told this was fine just wipe it off and plant. I soaked them in water according to the directions but upon separating the plants I noticed most were brown and had no green on them. I did plant them all but only 6 grew/got any leaves. I'm hoping they might come back next year but I'm not holding my breath. The only saving grace is these were on sale so I don't feel totally ripped off.

So disappointing 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I was really looking forward to having some homegrown strawberries for our family this summer. However, after purchasing my plants and the hanging bags, and following all of the directions, the plants have not survived. Not a single one! Very disappointing. The plants arrived as bare roots and there was Hope on three to four of the plants which did have some green leaf. I'm not sure what happened, but I will most likely never buy these again.

A beautiful Surprise 2 people found this helpful

My birthday was complete, you don't find store bought berries like these! I thank you and my son for this! He gave me the plants with blooms and no berries! The combo of his own compost and recommended fertilizer gave me berries long after my birthday...early summer and these were first year plants!

Much smaller than depicted 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

The berries were much smaller than depicted. While the plant thrived overall, it produced extremely small berries. They were nothing like the picture depicts. The ripe berries smell was intoxicating, but the taste didn't live up to the scent. So far, they are overwintering well, so hopefully, the year's maturity will also improve the size and taste for the 2022 growing season.
