Description / Park's Whopper Strawberry Plants & 2 Growin' Bags

You will receive 20 to 25 young bare root plant starts and 2 Growin' Bags.

Well, we can't persuade Mother Nature to start growing strawberries on trees, but our Growin' Bags may just be the next best thing for bringing your sweet, plump berries to eye level. Just try them with Park's Whopper Strawberry plants—winter-hardy, heavy-bearing, and so delicious—and you'll find out just how easy "vertical gardening" can really be.

Who says you have to crawl around in the dirt to grow great strawberries? Give your back and knees a break—and your eyes a treat—by growing your berries against the patio wall, dangling from a post or hook, or in any other "vertical" location you choose. Just fill the reusable, almost indestructible Growin' Bags with potting soil, set a Park's Whopper Strawberry plant in each of the 10 holes along the side of the bag, water it well to get the roots going, and hang it in any sunny spot. It's just that easy!

Growing berries off the ground makes a lot of sense. You get to enjoy the lovely white blooms that appear before the fruit. And when the berries emerge, they stay cleaner, are less prone to rot and nibbling insects, and are free to develop full, perfectly formed shapes—no flat white side. You get a ton of berries in a compact space. Big fruits, worthy of the Park's Whopper name, arrive in early summer on cold-hardy plants that are just as at home in the Northeast as in the Deep South.

To get you started on the strawberry patch—or should we say "pole"?—of your dreams, we've got 25 delicious, heavy-bearing Whopper strawberry plants plus 2 Growin' Bags. Just add soil, water, and a hearty appetite.

They work 0 people found this helpful

These bags work but very basic thin plastic. I agree with other reviews that the bottom couple plants drown at the bottom with little irritation hole. I’m going to try poking some more to try to save the plants. The rest is doing great. I have lots of blooms and small berries growing. Just got my first ready to pick berry.

I am so impressed with these strawberry plants! They took hold immediately and I saw growth right away! They are hanging outside now, and doing better than ALL the plants I purchased from nearby. I would definitely recommend these!

Not happy at all.. 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

After reading reviews& that the plants wouldn’t ship until it was time to plant in my area/zone I was very excited to order. The plants arrived the last week in March, far too early to plant outside here in central Pennsylvania. I stored them as directed in the fridge in our unheated garage. I filled & planted the bags last week, even though the majority of plants looked extremely anemic. A good amount of plants perked up and looked as though they might grow but as of now all but 8 have died! I have never been so disappointed.. 17 dead plants out of 25, and the majority of the 8 don’t look like they’ll survive. It’s still too cold to move them outside ~ What a waste of money & time!

I am very excited to see how my bags of strawberries do. I received my plants and were happy to see they all looked healthy and good sized. It was a little strange to plant the bags but all the plants have new growth and seem happy. I can’t wait to start harvesting . Very pleased. strawberries.

Here's hoping they're not all dead 0 people found this helpful

Received these after being charged twice for them, and they're in pretty poor shape. There are a few green shoots but it came in a ball of dry, dead leaves. I put them in a container of water right away but am not hopeful. Wish I could post a pic to show the sad state if these "plants".

love them with a little early work 0 people found this helpful

I have used these several times. The first year was the teacher. Afterward, took a piece of pvc, drilled holes in it and stuck it in the middle of the bag as I put the dirt in place. I then watered and fertilized through there. They were prolific and I had no loss of plants. I would recommend the pvc to adequately water. I had no drainage problems using miracle grow soil and fertilizer. I jump started with seaweed purchased from this site, which I recommend highly for everything. It is awesome!

Bags are inefficient and bad. Strawberries didn't survive. 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I purchased the 25 bareroot strawberries and the two growing bags and was displeased to find that most of the strawberries had very sad little root systems. Only about 70% of them came out of dormancy, and only about 8ish of them so far are producing flowers or fruiting. I would definitely recommend looking elsewhere for bareroot plants. As for the grow bags, I hate these things. So... Incredibly... Much. They are very very unattractive, whether hung freely from hooks or up against a fence/column. It makes planting the strawberries incredibly difficult due to strawberries needing a correct planting depth to prevent rot on the stems while still giving enough contact to the roots. It is extremely difficult and messy to do this in the growing bags with the little slits. Be prepared to get soil EVERYWHERE. Not only that, there is not nearly enough drainage in the bags. Lastly, if you are going to use these you need incredibly good potting soil. If it clumps together at all, then the soil just turned into this dense soil column where the water runs down the sides instead of into the soil. I am using an inexpensive potting mix that I've never had issues with before these bags, but now I'm seeing a lot of problems.

I planted and watered according to the instructions, but after 2 months there was no sign of growth. Very disappointed, it seems this was truly too good to be true.

Unfortunately mine were shipped right before Memorial Day and the weather was hot. So when I got them on Tuesday, only 2 plants were hanging on. Planted the crowns with no sprout anyway, but no luck.

Totally Dissatisfied!! 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I sent an email reviewing this purchase and was told someone would get back to me as soon as possible. That was almost 2 weeks ago and not a word. Maybe I'll get a response here. I am totally dissatisfied with this purchase. I only received 14 or 15 plants, not 25. Half of those were almost dead. Following directions all were dead in about a week. I have purchased from Park seed before and always have been happy with their products and service. So, what happened?

The bags are fine but NONE of the plants survived. I planted a group of eversweet in 2 other bags and all of those are growing great with a ton of flowers. Maybe just bad luck with the whopper plants

I will get more put in garage and they made it thru the winter except the bottom 2 plants in the growing bag. Live in NE. Ohio and it got down to -12 planted some others in a vertical planter a 6 inch plastic drain pipe but now heat is my enemy did get 50 plants in a 8 foot pipe =50 foot row experiment have to really water them gets too hot. Going to try them 25 in a 6 inch drain pipe and see if they work. This is better than ground planting the bags take it. When close to ready move somewhere that the robins can't find them or cover with burlap works so far. Our last extreme hot springs the past 10 have me convinced that this is better way to go the Park's Whopper and the growing bags.

I thought this thinking it would save space and hung them on a picket fence. They dried out daily. The bags stretched and in a week the handles broke. I laid them on the ground and obviously most died, Nice plants but the bags are hopeless!

I have already tried to post a review but for some reason my reviews are not appearing. I did not like the grow bags but the plants seem to be doing well. I put some of them in pots and they are actually doing better than those I put in the grow bags. Fingers crossed I'm actually going to have delicious strawberries!

I agree with another review - the growing bags are not great. I received my plants in the second week of March, really too early for planting in Western NC, but instructions said to plant asap and website indicated I would not receive until the time was right for planting in my area, so... I've lost about six of the plants and the others are hanging on, but not doing much growing. Have to see what happens in the coming months

This plant grows extremely fast if you follow the proper care instructions. I'm a first time berry grower. I got this plant a month ago and already have 20 plus berries growing with more flowering!
