Description / Persea Avocado 'Wurtz'

No matter where you live, you can enjoy fresh avocadoes on the patio or in the living room with 'Wurtz' avocado, also known as Little Cado, the only true dwarf in the Avocado family. Self-pollinating, heavy-bearing, and easy to grow, this container tree asks only sunshine and water to live a long, productive life.

Beginning just a year or two after planting, 'Wurtz' avocado begins setting mid-sized fruit of dark green. High in oils (16%), it is wonderfully succulent and rich, with thin skin for easier peeling. These 6- to 12-ounce fruits have a small seed and arise in good numbers all over the tree.

'Wurtz' avocado reaches no more than 10 feet tall, so you don't have to prune it to continuously reduce its size or keep it within bounds. Pinch the growing tips the first year to increase the bushiness of the habit, and then let it go. So easy!

This avocado appreciates a break from the hottest summer sun its first year and good protection from strong winds. It is hardy to 25°F but should be brought indoors before any danger of frost. It blooms from January through March, though the flowers are not particularly ornamental. Fruit follows from early summer to early fall and should be picked when it reaches full size and is still firm. It won't ripen on the tree; it must be picked first. Set the fruits on a plate and let them soften on the kitchen table; they will be ready to eat in just a few weeks.

'Wurtz' avocado is a hybrid of Mexican and Guatemalan species, with the best attributes of all. It is heavy bearing, trouble free, and dwarf. Give it a large container and keep it well watered, and it will repay you with countless delicious harvests.

The roughly one-year-old plant is 18-36" when shipped.

Came with spider mites and black spots on leaves and stem 0 people found this helpful

Purchased this tree in May and it came with spider mites and black spots on stem and leaves. I removed all the mites, pruned the diseased stems and leaves, and repotted the tree. A month later new growth started looking good, but just this week the black spots returned and is causing new leaves to drop. Just contacted customer support since there's supposed to be a 90 day guarantee on trees. We will see if it gets replaced.

Excited about my new avocado tree. Just received today and was in excellent condition. Unfortunately, it came with no instructions at all, not even planting instructions. That was a big disappointment. Time will tell ho well it really produces.

Avocado came with no instructions at all, not even the name of the plant. Would like to know how deep to plant, how much water, do I prune it etc.

I was so excited to receive my new "cado" but it did have some brown areas on the leaves. Now after a couple of weeks it still looks droopy. I have it on a mostly shady covered porch. The temperature has ranged from the low 40s to high 70s. I still have high hopes that it will be a happy addition to our garden.

Not healthy 0 people found this helpful

Plant arrived not looking healthy. I called and they told me it would revive. It never did. I have several fruit plants indoor year around (even bananas) but I couldn’t get this plant to revive. Disappointed, especially because it wasn’t cheap!

the product came very well packed and in good health. I got it in a container within a few days. It is healthy so far. I was a little disappointed that the tree did not come with explicit instructions on how to plant but it did come with general information on planting and care.
