Description / Exotic Collector's Edition Amaryllis Bulbs
Plant Amaryllis Exotic Collector's Edition bulbs in your favorite containers, and watch as your indoor space transforms into a vibrant display of unique and showy winter flowers. This exclusive collection features six distinct amaryllis varieties, each offering its own stunning color and form, making them perfect for holiday decor or as thoughtful, living gifts. The enormous blooms rise on stately stems 18 to 30 inches tall, filling your home with bursts of bright colors that brighten even the darkest winter days. While the beautiful flowers provide weeks of enjoyment, the true joy lies in watching these plants sprout, grow, and blossom, a process that is both mesmerizing and easy, thanks to the amaryllis' virtually foolproof nature. Whether you choose to grow them as annuals or nurture them year after year, these South American natives bring enduring beauty and charm to your home.
Belonging to the genus Hippeastrum, commonly known as amaryllis, the bulbs in the Exotic Collector's Edition are tender perennials best grown indoors in most USDA Zones. In Zones 9-12, they can be planted outdoors but need protection during freezing temperatures.
For indoor growing, select a 6- to 8-inch container and fill it halfway with a well-draining growing medium. Place the bulb on top, filling in the soil around it while leaving the top third of the bulb exposed. This setup allows room for watering and helps the bulb establish properly. Amaryllis bulbs thrive in room temperatures, and exposure to sunlight will encourage shorter, sturdier growth. To prevent the flower stalk from toppling as it grows toward the light, rotate the pot frequently.
If you wish to regrow your amaryllis, simply cut off the flower stalk just above the bulb's neck after the flowers fade, but leave the foliage intact. The leaves are vital for nourishing the bulb and preparing it for future blooms. Place the pot in a sunny window, watering only when the soil is dry, and fertilize regularly. In spring, once the danger of frost has passed, move the pot outdoors until fall. When frost kills off the leaves, remove them and let the bulb rest in a cool, dry place for about 2½ months. Do not water during this rest period. Afterward, restart the growing process to enjoy another season of spectacular blooms.
When planting outdoors, space the Amaryllis Exotic Collector's Edition bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep, ensuring the neck of the bulb is above the soil. Choose a sunny to partially shaded spot with well-draining soil, water well to settle the bulbs, and fertilize after the leaves appear, repeating this several times throughout the spring. Follow the same steps for replanting outside to ensure continuous beauty and bloom.
