Description / Amaryllis Garden Mix

Plant Amaryllis Garden Mix bulbs in your favorite pots this winter and enjoy a stunning display of colorful blooms that can reach an impressive 10 inches across. Perfect as gifts or for your own holiday decor, amaryllis bring a splash of color and elegance to the gray days of winter. Rising 18 to 30 inches tall on stately stems, these boldly colored blooms are a dramatic addition to any indoor setting. The magic of growing amaryllis lies in the anticipation, each bulb in this mix offers a surprise, with the possibility of double or single blooms in a variety of colors, making every bloom a delightful revelation. Beyond their beauty, amaryllis are incredibly easy to grow, virtually foolproof, and they bloom for weeks, offering joy throughout the holiday season. Whether you choose to grow them as annuals or keep them for years of re-blooming, amaryllis bulbs are a gift that keeps on giving.

The bulbs in this mix belong to the genus Hippeastrum, commonly known as amaryllis. These South American natives are typically grown indoors in North America. To get started, select a 6- to 8-inch container and fill it halfway with a well-draining potting mix. Position the bulb on top of the soil, leaving the top third of the bulb exposed above the soil line. This allows room for watering and helps the bulb establish well. Amaryllis bulbs thrive in room temperatures, and placing them in a sunny spot will encourage shorter, sturdier growth. As the flower stalk grows, rotate the pot frequently to ensure even growth and prevent toppling.

If you wish to regrow your amaryllis, follow these simple steps: After the flowers have faded, cut off the stalk just above the bulb's neck, leaving the foliage intact. The leaves are essential for nourishing the bulb and preparing it for future blooming. Place the pot in a sunny window and water only when the soil is dry, fertilizing regularly. In spring, once the danger of frost has passed, move the pot outdoors until fall. When frost kills off the leaves, remove them and allow the bulb to rest by storing it in a cool, dry place for about 2½ months. Do not water during this rest period. After the rest period, restart the growing process to enjoy another season of blooms.

In USDA Zones 9-12, amaryllis can be planted outdoors, as long as they are situated in a sunny to partially shaded spot and protected during freezing temperatures. Plant the bulbs 4 to 6 inches apart and 1 to 2 inches deep, ensuring the neck remains above the soil. Water well to settle the bulbs, and fertilize after the leaves emerge, continuing to fertilize several times throughout the spring. Follow the same steps for replanting outside to ensure a beautiful, long-lasting display.

Will begin shipping in early October.
