Description / Fragaria 'White Carolina' Strawberry

'White Carolina' pineberries bring a tropical twist to your garden, producing small-to-medium white to pale pink berries dotted with red seeds. Compact at just 8 to 10 inches tall, this low-growing plant attracts butterflies with its charming flowers before setting fruit with a unique pineapple-like flavor. As an everbearing variety, 'White Carolina' keeps the harvest coming all season long, delivering sweet and fragrant berries that are as delightful as they are distinctive.

A Fragaria chiloensis variety, commonly known as a pineberry, 'White Carolina' is a perennial plant (Zones 5-8) that spreads easily through above-ground runners, increasing your berry yield each year. Its compact size makes it ideal for containers and hanging baskets, adding charm to patios and balconies.

'White Carolina' strawberries thrive in full sun, requiring 6+ hours of direct light daily. Adaptable to various climates, this hardy plant prefers mild, temperate conditions and is naturally deer resistant, making it low maintenance and easy to grow.

Plant non-GMO 'White Carolina' roots in spring after the last frost. Space them 12 to 24 inches apart and 2 to 3 inches deep with crowns at soil level. Before planting, rinse and gently separate the roots. With its tropical flavor and compact growth, 'White Carolina' is a standout addition to your garden or patio.

Huge Disappointment! 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I've been a fan of Park Seed for as long as I can remember. For the last two decades, I've bought tons of things and been happy with every purchase. These strawberries were not just my most disappointing Park Seed purchase; they were possibly my most disappointing purchase of all time. They arrived at the same time as another breed of strawberry. The other ones (Fragaria Whopper) I got for 1/3 of the price. They were both an order of 20 starts. For the Whoppers, I received 23 usable starts. These White Carolina ones were terribly packaged, and while I found 20 roots, only about 5 of them sprouted (tried with the rest though they seemed unusable out the gate). So disappointing! I bought these same strawberries a few years ago (they were called pine berries at the time), and they have been wonderful. I was hoping to start some in grow bags beside the two beds I already have and wanted to try some new starts. I'm going to end up having to use runners from my other beds because these were bad. I'm posting pictures for reference. I still love Park Seed, but this one stings a bit. The 4 pictures: 1 - the dirt straight out of the bag with two usable starts you could see 2 - 2 grow bags jumbo on the right - failed Carolina on the left (1 week in) 3 - the 4 worse starts on my deck (glove next to it for size comparison) 4 - examples of the roots from biggest to smallest

    Response from store

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience—and for your long-standing support of Park Seed over the years. We’re truly sorry to hear about the condition of the White Carolina strawberry plants you received. That’s absolutely not the quality we aim to deliver, and we understand how disappointing this must have been, especially given your previous positive experience with these strawberries.

We’ll be reaching out to you via email shortly to discuss next steps and see how we can make this right. In the meantime, we sincerely appreciate your honest feedback—it helps us continue to improve.

Thank you again for being part of the Park Seed community.
