An early maturing variety, SuperStar cabbage is a strong-framed plant that sets medium to large, round heads, protected by multiple wrapper leaves. Homegrown cabbage is typically sweeter and crunchier than store-bought, and SuperStar offers excellent quality in both flavor and texture. And since the heads have excellent holding ability, both on the plant and after harvest, they also allow for a flexible harvest. SuperStar cabbage is considered a superfood for its nutrient-rich content, having a high micronutrient-per-calorie density. It is a good source of vitamin C and contains vitamin A, vitamin B6, potassium, fiber, and many phytonutrients, including glucosinolates, carotenoids, and phenolic compounds.
A Brassica oleracea variety, commonly called cabbage, SuperStar is an herbaceous biennial, typically grown as an annual. This plant is a member of the cabbage and mustard family (Brassicaceae or Cruciferae), commonly called crucifers, brassicas, or cole crops.
Easy to grow from seed, SuperStar cabbage grows best in a sunny site with organically rich, consistently moist, freely draining soil. Mulch helps to moderate soil temperature and to maintain soil moisture. If roots stand in water, heads will split or rot. Cabbage is a heavy feeder. Amend the soil with aged manure and/or compost before planting and fertilize with a balanced ratio of nutrients in the early stages of growth.
