All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2001

Fleuroselect Gold Medal winner 2001

When we grew this zinnia in our trial gardens here at Park Seed, the "oohs" and "aahs" were deafening. And no wonder—Profusion White (and its sunny sisters, Cherry and Orange) won the AAS Gold Medal Flower Award—the first flowers to receive this prestigious award in a decade. And White, along with Cherry, then walked off with the coveted Fleuroselect Gold as well. Without a doubt, the Profusion series has changed the way we landscape with zinnias forever—and for much, much the better.

These bushy plants, 14 to 18 inches high and 20 to 24 inches wide, are simply smothered nonstop all season with cheerful, 2-inch daisy-formed blooms of freshest white (with frilly yellow centers). Ideal for mass plantings or containers.

Profusion is highly tolerant of mildew and other foliage diseases, and laughs at heat, humidity, and drought. We are proud to give Profusion our highest recommendation for garden-worthiness. And now there are 2 new and exciting colors in the family: unusual coral-colored Apricot and bold, two-toned Fire.

Zinnias are one of the easiest annuals to grow, and attract butterflies to the garden. They are the perfect cut flower—the more you cut, the more you get. They thrive in the sun and heat of summer, and ask only well-drained soil. Space the plants generously to prevent overcrowding. When cutting the blooms for the vase, trim off all the foliage; unlike the blooms, it does not age well. Direct sow or start ahead indoors.

I commented earlier on the product description and lack of disclosure about the coating on the seeds, but I can't figure out how to edit my previous review. So far, I do have a good germination rate. It is too early in the season to comment on blooms, but as Zinnias tend to be easy to grow and not finicky, I am confident that I will have beautiful blooms as the season progresses. I specifically purchased this variety after reading elsewhere that the single-bloom varieties are better for butterflies.

    Rating

The low rating is based on the product description vs. What i received. I grow zinnias every year and have never seen zinnia seeds that come with a coating applied. These have some sort of bright yellow coating on them, which i feel should be included in the description. I will update my review if I end up having good germination with these.

    Response from store

Thanks for your feedback! Some of our seed suppliers apply a powder coating to certain seed crops to make sowing easier. This coating contains no chemicals and does not affect germination in any way. If you experience any germination issues, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 800-845-3369 or info@parkseed.com. We’re happy to help!
