Description / Prunus 'Kristin' Cherry
Prunus 'Kristin', a sweet cherry variety, bred in Geneva, New York, renowned for its remarkable hardiness, enduring temperatures as low as minus 25°F and below.
Prunus 'Kristin' Cherry is an impressive deciduous tree, celebrated for its ornamental beauty and mouth-watering fruits. As spring arrives, the tree bursts with clusters of petite, fragrant white blossoms that prelude the emergence of its foliage. Come July, these blossoms give way to bountiful crops of large, glossy, dark-burgundy cherries. These "black oxheart" type cherries boast firm, juicy flesh, brimming with a sweet, richly aromatic flavor that's perfect for fresh consumption. Packed with vitamins B6, potassium, magnesium, and fiber, these sweet cherries don't just taste good, they're good for you too.
Prunus 'Kristin' Cherry is grafted onto a semi-dwarf Colt rootstock, so it grows to about 80% of standard size, reaching a full height of 12 to 15 feet. A versatile addition to your garden, it can be trained as an espalier or grown as an accent, specimen, or container plant. In a container, it will stay smaller but will still bloom and bear full-sized fruits. Please note, 'Kristin' requires cross-pollination with another sweet cherry variety and will start to bear fruit 2 to 3 years after planting.
For optimal growth, plant cherry trees in a protected spot with plenty of sun or partial shade, and average, medium moist, well-drained soil. They are, however, adaptable to a variety of soil conditions.
This cherry tree will ship at the appropriate planting time based on your growing zone. This cherry tree does not ship in December or January. Plant height is 18-36" when shipped.
