All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2019

Red Torch, a hybrid tomato, sets small "perfect" flowers, followed by striped oblong fruits that are 1 ½ inch long and weigh about 1 ½ ounces, with excellent flavor and great texture. Tomatoes are considered a superfood for its nutrient rich content, having a high (top 20) Aggregate Nutrient Density Index score (ANDI), or micronutrient-per-calorie density. Tomatoes are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium. They also contain phytonutrients, including the carotenoids lycopene and beta-carotene.

This herbaceous tender perennial is grown as an annual. A compact indeterminant variety, often called a "vining" tomato, it requires staking or caging for support. Blossoms and fruit continue to develop as the vine grows, so, it bears fruit over the course of a season. The plant fruits earlier in the season than most and produces high yields of 100 plus.

The plant grows best in full sun and moist, humusy, deep, fertile loams. It resists fusarium wilt(F), stem canker(A), and gray leaf spot (St.) and tolerates heat and harsh growing conditions. Self-pollinating, it will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties.

A warm-season vegetable, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost, it should be direct sown into warm spring soil after all danger of frost has passed. Flowers begin to set fruit with night temperatures between 55° and 75°F. Protect plants if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulching helps to moderate soil temperature and to maintain soil moisture.

Plants can also be started indoors and planted outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
