Description / Rhubarb 'Victoria'

(Synonym: Large Victoria.) We are delighted to make this popular and delicious variety available at last! Victoria is among the most widely-grown of all Rhubarb varieties, and the reasons are simple: it can be harvested after just one year, and it is without a doubt the sweetest and juiciest of all!

This plant reaches 2 to 3 feet high and 3 feet wide, with 24-inch stalks. These round, smoothly ribbed stalks range from pure green to speckled pink near the base, green at the top, with the occasional bright red stalk for variety. Contrary to popular myth, the redness of the stalk has nothing to do with the sweetness of the fruit -- Victoria is the unquestioned sweetest variety, yet has greener stalks than many others.

Victoria can be harvested the first year after planting. Space the plants about 3 feet apart in the garden, and if you're growing it in the South, be sure to give it a bit of shade and plenty of moisture. You will find Victoria very robust and long-lived, the tried-and-true favorite among gardeners and rhubarb lovers! Zones 3-9. Pack of 3.

Mixed results 0 people found this helpful

I received 3 roots, two that looked about the same, the other considerably smaller. Once planted, the two biggers ones took off and grew amazingly well. The third one never broke ground. Unfortunately, the spot I put them in had too much clay and they got crown rot, so I have to start over. So while I was disapointed and felt a bit like my money didn't get me what I'd paid for with the one dud, I was very impressed with the two that grew were big, bold and beautiful from the get-go. With the viability issue, I've decided to go to the local nursery to get my replacements as potted plants this time.

Planted within a week of getting them. All 3 plants germinated and grew to become beautiful plants. I am sure that we will harvest the 2nd year.

A Huge Waste of Time and Money 0 people found this helpful

My 3 bare roots arrived moldy and spongy feeling. I tried to coax some life out of them but they were completely dead. I wrote to customer service but after a week of no I response, I called them. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes, I was offered a new shipment. Seeing no reason for a second shipment to arrive in any better condition, I asked for a refund. That took another 5 minutes on hold to get approved. I was assured that I would receive a refund within 5 days and be notified by email. I received an email that my case was closed but no refund after 7 days. I wrote again asking what the hold up was. No response. Finally received a refund and only saw it because I checked the credit card bill. Total time for customer service to resolve the issue? April 25 to May 16th. Not impressed by Park Seed. I chose them because I thought they were a reputable company but I guess I was wrong.

Not Satisfied 1 people found this helpful

Received three sad looking dried roots which I potted and kept indoors on a heat mat. In time, one of the roots did bud and is now growing. The other two have shown no signs of life and are a total loss. I am extremely unhappy with the product and should have gone to a local nursery.

Not too happy 1 people found this helpful

Received what looked like three dead sticks. Placed them in pots with potting soil and kept them well watered and on a heating pad. So far, only one has shown any signs of life. The other two remain as received with no sign of life. I could have gotten this good a result from Walmart. In summary, I am not pleased with the product.

New Rhubarb Grower 1 people found this helpful

I have had success with 2 of the 3 roots after 2 weeks. One was very tiny and so far no growth. The other two are now starting to grow and have green leaves. I hope to have strawberry rhubarb pie like my grandma used to make.

Spring 2020-Received delivery of very healthy Rhubarb roots and planted them within a few days. Currently waiting for them to show signs of growth, but I expect them to do that soon. I am very happy with the quality of the plants I received from Park Seed.

Marginal Quality 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

The order I got was marginal quality at best. There were 3 roots. The largest one was soft and squishy. The other 2 were smaller showing a growth bud showing but very little roots on them not sure they will grow. Parks needs to take more pride and in sending viable root stock. Not sub-par stock. Also there needs to be product specific instructions for Victoria Rhubarb.

Great product 1 people found this helpful

I planted in Spring 2015 and it is doing well in my font yard garden in zone 5 as of 2017. During the growing season 2016, it has thick stalks. I haven't harvested any yet. I don't use fertilizer on it. I just mulch heavily with wood chips. And I don't need to water it. In winter time, it dies back to the ground to come back in spring.
