Description / Royal Plum Cathedral Bells Vine Seeds

Big, graceful bells crowd for position on this super-fast, extra-showy twining vine. Cup-and-Saucer takes its name from the bloom form--the big cup-shaped blooms arise from a cluster of petals, surrounding the base like a saucer! A charming effect, enhanced by frilly, curlicued anthers of chartreuse emerging from the white-streaked throats of these huge, silky blooms.

When the blooms open, they are a pale green, almost the same color as the small, tear-shaped foliage. Then they quicky darken to deep, royal purple. This vine is one of the fastest-growing and most trouble-free plant you will ever see in the garden. Pests do not disturb it; it grows effortlessly by twining to 20 feet; and it blooms abundantly from midsummer to fall. Direct-sow the seeds in full sun or part shade. Pkt is 15 seeds.

Michigan, growing zone 4b. Love this vine. It's fast growing, fills out a trellis quickly. Full of blooms. I grew on a sturdy support in the full sun, south-facing garden.

I tried many different ways to germinate these seeds. None germinated. Disappointed

Vine is growing like a week at a rate of what seems like a foot a day. No blooms yet, but too early. In a pot on the deck with string up to a pergola. Fingers crossed, as this is my first attempt with one.

2 star deduction for no blooms 0 people found this helpful

Needed fertilizer when young but bounced back really well. Grew very fast, almost too fast. It doesn't require a full trellis, but I had climbing up a brick wall and the adhesive pads aren't strong enough to support the plants' weight when heavy storms come around. The foliage is pretty BUT I have one huge caveat...it never bloomed. I knew I should wait before making a review, but it's October 5th and there are still no flower buds to be found on either of the massive two plants I have in a full sun location. Maybe I should have done some pruning? Not sure what when wrong here, but it's VERY disappointing as the flower is the goal of growing a plant like this.

I planted this to cover an old ugly fence in a mostly shady part of the yard. It has grown so fast and looks absolutely lovely. The blooms are vibrant and so unique! I've gotten so many compliments on this plant that just thrives on neglect!
