The allure of the Russian Mammoth Sunflower goes beyond its visual appeal. The sunflower heads, with their flowering heads nodding cheerfully in the sun, are not just a sight to behold but a source of nutritious seeds. I planted 6 seeds in pots with potting soil, in a couple of weeks 3 of them came up with long very thin stems with only two leaves on top, 2 didnt come up at all, and 1 looked great, with a heavy stem with about 6 good healthy leaves on it, so I got one out of 6 plants, not a very good avarage. :(

total waste 0 people found this helpful

I grow great sunflowers every year. This year I decided to mix it up and bought some seeds from Park Seed. These sunflowers, they were 6' by mid-June and already done. Flowers were spent, seriously by June 5th. I'm in northern Virginia. Complete waste of money, time and water. I won't be ordering sunflowers from here anymore.
