Description / Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory Vine Seeds

The most magnificent red morning glory we have ever had the delight to grow, and one that always draws gasps and stares from visitors to the trial gardens. Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory Vine is a stunner.

Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory blooms are a full 4 inches across, deeply colored and with a velvety texture that adds depth to their rich display. They arise in abundance in summer and fall, opening in the morning and tightly closed again by late afternoon. Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory Vine is particularly vigorous and fast-growing—it's the one you want to quickly cover that ugly chain-link fence, show off to the neighbors on the mailbox, or climb the patio trellis.

Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory is a breeze to direct sow, but if you want even earlier blooms, start the seeds ahead indoors. Scarlet O'Hara Morning Glory Vine can tolerate a bit of shade—though blazing sun is its preference—and is especially useful in dry soils, where other plants have not been content. Drought-tolerant and ultra-easy, it climbs to about 6 feet.

Light green foliage, purple-pink flowers 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

This plant grew wonderfully. I had one in a morning sun location in a 25 gal fabric container shared with 3 tree seedlings, and the other in-ground, full sun. The one in part shade grew really nicely and had ample blooms. The one in full sun grew like crazy, almost out of control, very thick twines, and I would note that it did not produce any more blooms than the other in part shade, maybe even less. The description is inaccurate on color, but this is a 5 star plant.

Fuchsia not Red 1 people found this helpful

    Rating

3 stars for it's vigorous growth, however, Scarlet O'Hara is more purplish-red than true red. The vine is also a light green rather than a rich, deep green. A little more tweeking of this variety and it will be a winner.

NOT red but easy to grow 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

Blooms are definitely fuscia not red. I planted spring 2011 and had healthy foliage but no blooms until Dallas had an extended heatwave. I found the trick to lots of blooms is the hold back on the fertilizer and water. The foliage is not a deep green and will wilt under full sun but bounces back. When I pulled down the dead vines in autumn there were loads of seed pods. I planted some of those seeds this spring and they've grown fine. I intend to order the blue as fuscia isn't really what I was after but the vines do grow prolifically.
