Description / Scentsation Honeysuckle

The name tells you almost everything you need to know. Yes, this is the most wonderfully fragrant honeysuckle you will ever grow—that's almost a given. But what you might not suspect is that the scent comes from the sheer number of blooms as well as their individually strong aromas. This super free-flowering vine sets more blooms than you can believe possible.

The flowers are bright yellow and so showy, bringing bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds into the garden by the dozen. They begin in mid-spring on this twining shrub and continue in waves all through summer and into fall. Such an amazingly long season and with more blooms than ever before.

Bred in Herefordshire, England, Scentsation is hardy to -20 to -30°F, thriving in full sun or, in the hottest climates, light shade. It reaches 10 feet long without a backward glance and easily 5 feet wide, so find a big trellis, fence, wall, or other sturdy support and watch it take off! Zones 4-9.

The first year, my plant vined to about the size of a small tomato plant. There was two weeks during July with no rain while I was on vacation, and after a good watering it was fine. Late in the season red berries grow.

Not scentsational 0 people found this helpful

Second year, it's growing great, putting out lots of vines and twining along the fence nicely. Lots of flowers but sadly very little scent.

Hasn't bloomed in two years 0 people found this helpful

It bloomed great the first year and had scent. If this is a hybrid it had no scent the second year at all but the blooms were good. No blooms since then. This plant was in a container with miracle grow potting soil. 14" so plenty of room..

Beautiful flowers... nice healthy fast growing vines ....only problem...no fragrance.. none... even with my nose right in the flower. I’ll try another vine this year.

One of the best new Honeysuckles. Has earned our respect! 0 people found this helpful

There are many reasons I've grown to appreaciate Scentsation. Strong early then continous bloomer here until frost. Quite fragrant large flowers (flowers larger and in larger clusters than Halls, and plant growth form better)! Light color shows well from a distance, and used to good effect in creating a moonlight garden too. Flowers are excellent Hummingbird attractor. Grows strongly but not too rampantly, even in part shade locations. Leaves resistant to mildew and black spotting. Well behaved not over shooting from the base, just enough to fill in. Nice woody stem twining pattern develops within a year or two. Woody stems are a light brown that shows well against leaves an adds interest, in all seasons. Attractive red berries clusters in late summer and fall show well and attract birds, and Scentation keeps blooming even during berry set. Haven't had any aphid or other insect problems! Also plays well in combination with other vines. We decided to move last Spring and found that the mother plant moved easily by trimming and transplanting to a large tub, leaving a self layered start at the old house for the next family. We let the mother plant grow for a year in the tub, and found out it makes a wonderful tub patio plant! We will replant her this Spring. We have 4 other popular Honeysuckle varieties in the yard and Scentsation wins our respect hands down. It has earned a spot at the entry to our gazebo. If (when?) you get one plant it where you can enjoy the fragrance wafting by and the birds interacting with this beautiful vine.
